There's a reason Cerebus wants to sell off Dodge/Chrysler and it's not because it's great. GM has enough problems of it's own.

They either merge or go under.....That's the sad fact. Far as I'm concerned MOPAR can croak, so can GM for that matter. The big three has missed the boat for a long time in building quality, economical cars to compete with the Asian markets, not to mention the wages they've allowed the UAW to make over the years.Now it's biting them in the ass......Waaah! Cry me a river. After the events of the past month, if a business can't make it, then close. I'm sure they've had their share of AIG related bonuses and stupid corporate perks that by curbing could have kept them in business.

It's easy to want GM & Chrysler, or Ford for that matter, to just blow away with the wind, but hey, who doesn't need a second chance in life (it does look like they're trying, even though it may be a case of too little too late). Besides, we may need parts for some time to come. And what if GM comes out with a G9 or G10? My God, we'll all be running down to our friendly Pontiac Dealer once again!

You can bet your ass that they won't go under. The government will bail them out at OUR expense.

From What I read it's possible that GM will shed GMAC and pick up Chrysler and absorb it into GM and it will just become a GM brand like Saturn.

I think it'd be the other way around personally... They would be under General Motors but I may be wrong... So it would still be a Dodge Viper but the little GM plates may be on the fenders... Which is maybe what you meant... DOH!

If they did merge Id imagine the only thing GM would be interested in would be Jeep and maybe some of their engineering resources. Other than that they'd be absorbing them and pooping them out.

Chrysler has three new electric cars they were showing on CNBC a few weeks back. One was a mini looking viper that went from 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Thats probably why GM is interested in Chrysler. I had a 300 and it was a nice car, just old technology in my opinion, but, they sold a shit load of them. My g8 is heads and shoulders above the 300.
