It’s been a while since we had an Owner’s Spotlight, so here’s another one. This Time: Brian (BlackBirdWS6)
Purchasing the G8
Why were you looking for a new car?
After graduating college, I purchased a very cheap commuter car (97 Mazda Protege) from a family friend since my Trans Am is really not the best for daily duty. The car ran well but looked like it had seen better days so I started looking for a new car.
What other cars where you looking at when you purchased your G8?
The G8 was really the only car in my price range I was interested in. The Charger was appealing but only in SRT8 form.
What made you decide on the G8 in general?
It was a new vehicle, great styling, impressive power, comfortable, and tons of interior/trunk room.
Why did you pick the color & options you did?
Since I had a feeling this would be a popular car and I wanted mine to stand out, I asked the dealer to locate me a car in Ignition Orange Metallic (IOM). I also requested the car have the sport package and sunroof. The dealer informed me they had the exact car coming in.
Looking back would you have picked differently?
Absolutely not. I would have considered waiting for the GXP but the initial pricing without incentives and lack of the IOM color made me decide to purchase the car when I did.

Dealership & Service
What dealership did you purchase your Pontiac G8 from?
Greenbrook Pontiac in Greenbrook, NJ

How was your dealership experience?
Could have been better. The car was new and hot when I purchased so the dealer was less than enthusiastic working a deal. The sale portion of the transaction when through fine however the service experience thereafter was horrible. Two months into ownership, the car needed a new ECM and was flat bedded to the dealer. The dealer decided to put 50 miles on the car overnight for unexplained reasons. The issue was brought to their attention along with other service issues and it was an argument the entire way. I have since switch dealers to Miller Pontiac in Woodbridge, NJ and love their service.

Where do you service your G8 and how is that experience?
Miller Pontiac in Woodbridge, NJ has a fantastic reputation and the service is phenomenal. Rattles that most dealers would not be able to replicate were found and corrected at this dealer. They go over and beyond what is expected.

Modifications

Have you done anything to modify the car looks wise?

20% tint to all windows besides the windshield
Removed the GM emblems from the front fenders
Removed the PONTIAC letters from the trunklid and swapped the “8″ and “T” on the back so it reads G8 GT from left to right
Installed a GXP rear bumper trimPainted the brake calipers with Orange high temp. paint.

Have you done anything to modify the car performance wise?
The car currently has a Vararam intake, TT Performance custom dyno tune and American Racing Headers 1 3/4″ catted long tube system with stock mufflers.
What are you planning next for the car as far as mods go?
Remove the intake cover and a few dress up items
Closing Thoughts

Any dislikes about your car?
The soft paint on the front end is very prone to rock chips and the glove box feels very cheap. Otherwise I love it.
Favorite features about the Pontiac G8?
The overall style of the car and the performance it carries. Before the full exhaust system and with just a dyno tune and homemade CAI, the car ran a best of 12.93@108.63 with a 1.96 60′ . The car is a joy to drive each day and the handling and comfort is icing on the cake.
What would you tell anyone who might be considering buying a G8 ?
The G8 represents a car that can appeal to many different demographics. The style is contemporary, the power is formidable, and offers enough versatility for most active individuals.
