Some of us believe that the V6 engines built in Australia came with the 2 piece engine covers. MY U.S. built engine came with the 1 piece cover. Are these covers interchangable? With a STB and a 1 piece cover it is a pain to get to the filter w/o removing the STB first. I am wondering if the 2 piece would be easier. Question, do the 2 piece covers attach to the engine the same points as the 1 piece cover? And, are the 2 piece covers availble for purchase? If so, what would be the cost including shipping?

So tell me if your V6 Pontiac G8 has the same mounting brackets, posts etc in the correct quantities to fit the 2 piece covers & we'll go from there.

4 points on the left.

Thaks Paul will check it out and get back to you. Think the 2 piece looks better, allows the engine to cool better and hopefully not require me to remove the STB to remove the one piece cover during oil filter changes. BTW this came up on that other forum as well. The pics are great. Thanks.

The pics are great. Thanks.

I remembered a friend had a V6 VE at his workshop for a service.
I didn't even have time to dust off the covers. I took the pics about 10min after you asked, the car went straight from the photoshoot onto a hoist.

I looked at my engine tonight. Sorry to say that the connection points are appearently not the same. There is now a uniqueness to the Australian engine. Someone else may want to double check my observations.

Not the engine, just the brackets and posts fitted to it.
Post up the pics once you have daylight there.

No slotted brackets on left side of engine , no horizontal cylinder on left sife either. No horizobtal cylinder on right . The rear of the one piece connects totally different to the engine. My camera is broken, can anyone else out there with the one piece cover take some pics of the cover and the mounting points and either post or send to Paul.

Is the 2-piece a rarity in the US cars? Mine has it on my v6....

Look at the window sticker that was on your car. Is the engine built in the U.S. or Australia? If built in U.S. probably a one piece cover. If engine built in Australia, probably 2 piece cover.

unfortunately, I'm the second owner and the window sticker's long gone. but definitely an interesting feature to take note of.

Panzer does your cover look like the Camaro cover?

1st design G8 V6
GM used the 2 Piece covers on the G8 in all 2008 and some 2009 G8's then switched to the 1 piece cover.

You hit it on the head. Can the 2 piece be adapted to the engine. Appears that the nounting brackets are different? Also any idea why they changed?

My understanding from Mr Panzer is that on the engines fitted with one piece covers, there are no horizontal posts cast onto the sides of the intake manifold.....to accept the rubber cylinders (your items #5 in the last pic).

The posts with rubber cylinders are used by a C shaped claw under the front of both 2 piece engine covers to latch onto.

Some good pics of the underneath side of a one piece cover and the existing mounting points on the corresponding V6 would help clear this up straight away.

From a V6 with 2 pce engine covers.
Cast horizontal post with rubber cylinder (#5) stuck to it.

I have a guess that the covers main purpose is to, 1.) Protect the electrical wiring. 2) Additional sound insulation. amd 3) Keep dumb asses from putting their hand down on a hot engine. As I have the Pedders STB I might be able to rule out number 3. I would be interested IF we are sure that the retro can be done and the total parts are available. Thanks very much for the assist.

It all relies on those two cast horizontal posts on the front of the intake manifold. [See the most recent pics added above].
If you do not have them (as you say) then the 2 piece covers cant latch at the front.

Based on the pictures appears to be no go. HOWEVER, I have seen 2 piece covers for the V8. I wonder if the same could be done for the V6 using the existing mounting points. Nice polished red sport metallic aluminum covers would be nice.

Sorry folks, relooked at engine. It does have the side horizontal posts. But not the vertical slotted brackets. Appears that everything else is the same.

Can you give a short narrative description of the parts. Does this package include the vertical slotted bracets? I wonder if those mounting holes are there, if so may have the bolts in as plugs. If not will need the bolts. Thanks Greg for giving me another freaking mod to do. Does it ever end?:woohoo:

Paul, you are a Gentlemen and a Scholar. This now goes on what I thought to be, the "shrinking" lists of mods.
