Hi all,

I'm planning on heading to Tri-State this Saturday for test n' tune and I am looking for any advice as this is only my second time running a car. My trouble is traction, I have the stock Summer Potenzas on and can't get any grip off the line and loose some going into 2nd. I plan on lowering the TP a little more, last time out I ran 32, plan on 28 or 25 this time out.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanx,
Kevin

Don't just stomp the gas. Roll into it at a steady but quick pace. DO NOT go through the water box if at all possible. Go around it and do a 2-3 second burn out to clean your tires. If the track is prepped good you should be ok. The real trick is initial throttle modulation at the launch. The launch, as you already know, will make or break you. Unless you are shredding the tires in second of a while I wouldn't worry too much about that shift. Once again track prep is a big factor.

Put it in sport mode and let the transmission do the shifting too.

The tire pressure at 25 will help.

how were you launching before? at idle 800rpm? 1000rpm?
do as 99 said and roll into the throttle, and i wouldn't worry about a little chirp into second

launched mostly at idle and stomped it.

Launch pretty mild the first time and see what traction you encounter. If it holds then get a little more aggressive with the throttle roll in. See if the tires hook and repeat in 200 rpm increments until you start losing traction. Then back down by 100 rpm increments until you are able to hook again. After that then start working more on your shifting later on down the track. If you try to work on getting too many things dialed in at once then you won't be able to remember every little variable in good enough detail to assist you in refining your run from the launch through rolling through the traps.

Try and get in the same lane each time aswell. There can be small differences in the lanes but they can make a big difference.

Kevin, Pleasure meeting you at tri-state. My Turbo-Mopar buddies gave me lots of crap about the Pontiacs being there....LOL.

I managed a PB with the car... 13.56 @ 104.62. Nothing done to the car... Still dissappointed with all the tq management... But a 4200lb 4 dr family car off the lot... Not bad.

Liked seeing your 13.1x's

Ken,
Great meeting you too. Went back yesterday and ran several 13.1x's then finally got a 13.094. Little by little sneaking up on the 12's.
