Solo Performance is proud to offer the Mach X and XL Exhaust Kits for the G8 Manual and Automatic V8.

Mach X and XL Kit Details

Price: $779 shipped + Group Buy Discount

Mach X and XL muffler is 14", made of T304 Stainless Steel
Direct Bolt-On
The automatic has the AFM system, which switches between 4 cylinders and 8 cylinders
These kits are NO DRONE
The Mach X and XL have a deep and mean American muscle sound.
When you make a system that switches between a 4 cylinder and an 8 cylinder, it can be difficult to find the precise balance point between enough of the right sound and enough quietness to kill the drone. We at Solo Performance are happy to say that we found that sweet spot. One customer stated that it sounds like an "aangry lion" that never gets too out of hand.
We use 2.5" T409 stainless steel, mandrel bent piping
We use T304 stainless steel on the muffler and 3" tips
The tips are 3" dual, beveled, and staggered T304 stainless steel

Group Buy

We will be running a group buy on both kits through November 30, 2009.

Discount

Each kit ordered will add 1% discount to the final price, up to 20%. Each kit ordered after 20 will receive the 20% discount. We will be selling a maximum of 30 kits, combined manual and automatic, at this group buy rate. Credit cards will be charged the full kit price, and then credited the appropriate discount at the end of the group buy. This ensures that we can ship the kits out before the group buy ends.

I don't understand what the difference is between the X and XL kits if they both use the 14" muffler. What is the difference between the two?

The design of the pipes is different...the automatic has a slightly different setup underneath, and some of the design factors were changed. We also used a few of our own tricks to kill the drone from the AFM. Originally, we had used an 11" muffler in the Mach XL, but after tons of testing and feedback, decided that the 14" did more of what we were looking for. Therefore, we ended up switching to the 14" right at the end of development and were happier with the results.

I just want confirm that the XL kit will not bolt up to an auto equipped vehicle. There are people that have the AFM tuned out, so that is not a big deal to all of us. I like the way the XL sounds, I do understand part of that has to do with the 6.2 instead of the 6.0.

I am confused to the difference with the Mach X or XL systems. Is the first picture a pic of the 2 systems or stock versus solo? Do both solo systems delete the use of axle back mufflers?

The kits are the same...we use the two names so we can keep records of what sells for the auto and what sells for the manual. The first picture is the stock exhaust next to our kit. Both delete the axle-back mufflers. We didn't need to have any, and we had the added benefit of reducing the weight of the kit.

It appears that this fits the factory manifolds and cats. Is it a reasonable assumption that it will not fit a catted LT setup?

If it fits the stock system, it will bolt-on to ours. If not, you may have to cut it to length and weld it on.

Got my SOLO system installed today by the local Buffalo shop that is going to be quite busy when it comes to shipping all these kits out in the upcoming weeks!

First off, the guys at "Mufflerman" were top notch, each one of them were 'enthusiasts' in their own right. They involved me actively every step of the way and let me inspect it before coming down from the lift. They were also asking me all about the car, something you don't really see too much of anymore. The experience from the local installer was really great.

The tips are perfect, (my factory GT tips came already rusted and pitted, thanks to the dealership that had my car prior to my dealers trade) very well made and polished to a brilliant shine.

First 'remote start' while it was still on the lift was nothing short of amazing. As compared to the WMA/Washer Mod, this system has a bit more 'oomph' and idle is a very deep yet subdued tone.

I agree with what other reviewers have said, in that if you tap the manual mode to downshift when coming to a stop, the "burble burble bub bub bub" is really an amazing sound, with hardly to no pops or bad exhaust noises.

I did find that on the highway in 6th gear at 72-75mph if you start to go uphill, there is a bit of engine noise, but not what I would call a 'drone'. You can use manual mode or sport mode to bump it to a slightly more comfortable pitch if cruising at that speed for a longer time.

When you 'get on it' ... it just opens up. Sounds just like the 'stock exhaust' SHOULD have sounded from the factory.

DoD is enabled on my car, and I was suprised that compared to WMA, you can barely hear/feel the car going in and out of 4 cyl mode, which is a testament to the great design of this muffler system. From what I hear, other mufflers really have a tough time dealing with the 4 cyl mode, but this SOLO system handles it just fine. Come springtime though, I may tune out the DoD anyways, so this would be a non-issue.

The band-clamps that are used in the system are really of high quality as well, they're well hidden and they flow extremely well with the stainless steel that this system is made out of. Really completes the look, in my opinion.

There's a ~10% chance that since this is my DD I will inquire about the secondary resonator/mufflers once they are released, since most of my travel is highway speeds ~70-75mph. That's no bash on this exhaust system by any means, but I'd like to entertain the option for a slightly tamer commute. Again, this is just the first day I've had it on, I'm just about sure it will grow on me even more.

All in all, I'm very impressed with the SOLO system. Took about an hour for the shop to get everything tweaked and aligned. They did a great job at balancing/aligning the tips, they look perfect.

Excellent job in the Design, Fabrication, and Presentation (via the agressive Group Buy) -- kudos to SOLO for the full monte. Hopefully the group buy (And all these great reviews) will keep the orders coming in for quite some time from now and SOLO can become a mainstay with G8 owners for a long time.

I feel the same way. This car is my DD and the "hum" at around 67-72mph is not sitting well with me. Anything that isn't nailed down vibrates around me. Steve said they are working on a solution so I will hang tight before I go back to stock.

Overall I really like how it sounds outside the car...it puts a smile on my face each time I remote start the car. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Solo solves the "no drone" hum.

We will have an update tomorrow night for you. We are absolutely working on it. We take customer feedback very seriously!!

I just had my MACH exhaust upgraded to v2.0, and I posted some pics and details about it on 'the other board'.

It involves a capped "T pipe" welded in just forwards of the muffler, and an X pipe just rearwards of the muffler. The shop owner, Jeff, went with me on a 'before and after' test drive set, and I'm convinced that they solved the problem that a few of us had around 70mph / 6th gear. This is now a perfect exhaust system.

The modifications take away about 85% of the reverb from between 1800-2000 RPM, which is SUCCESS in my book.

Steve and Jeff and their teams did a great job with this enhancement. They're working at making these necessary changes to all the kits that were already made but not yet shipped, and they will then ship them out with the updated design at no additional cost.

I can't figure out how to open up an album on this board, and I don't have a picture hosting site account, so for now I guess the pics will stay on the other board where there are album areas to host your pics. Sorry...

I agree, bigred ...

I think SOLO jumped on the GB on the other board, then someone recommended that they also start it here to gather more people for the GB, then they wound up selling close to ~70 kits anyways!

People are starting to receive their 2.0 kits, still a few slightly mixed reviews. I don't think any of the videos do it justice, video cameras are designed to minimize noises to some degree, so what someone experiences in the cabin is different than what the video camera picks up. At least from what I've seen of the videos posted...
