View Full Version : Reversing the +/- in Manual Mode

I want Push = Downshift, Pull = Upshift.

Anyone done it? My buddy thinks it's as easy as using tuning software, or by switching some wiring.

Please, prove him right. Cuz I wanted inverted shifting. The current way is unnatural.

What's unnatural is going from my G8 into a Bimmer which is the way you want it. I think Audi does it like the G8 though. Can't remember.

Nope, sorry. This has been researched before. (If you can't find it here it may be on the *other* board)

Switching is done by putting different resistors in a single signal wire read by the Body Control Module and then sent to the Engine Control Module and eventually to the Transmission Control Module.

Everything with the resistors is internal to the shifter switch in the console.

But I agree with you that it is backwards. What do you expect from people who drive on the *wrong* side of the road.....

Ok, this is what I've been trying to tell people on my local forum. We'd have to swap in the shifter from a Calais or something, IIRC.

Here's the link with the better diagrams from G8 Ray

I like it the way it is now, it feels natural to me, the only thing I think it lacks is a way of going back from Manual to Sport without first having to put it in normal mode again.

In my Evo X it's pulling back to Upshift and pushing forward to Downshift.

There is no "right and wrong", just what the manufacturer chooses and what's comfortable to you.

wat? who is retarded? we know what up and down mean, so what exactly are you trying to say with your post?

i just wanted to know if the push//pull can be reversed...easily...and how. pretty simple. i want it the other way. don't really care if anyone dislikes the idea, because you can just leave yours alone if you are content with it.

Push forward and pull back do not in my book
even come close to Up and Down.
I agree with TrUcKeR. I would like it reversed.
When acceleration is pushing you back into
the seat it is easier to pull toward you to upshift.

It's gonna take a whole lot more power than anyone here is pushing before it really becomes hard to push the shifter forward.

That said... I can't decide which way is better. It's just personal preference if you like one way or the other. I seem to be indifferent on the matter. I would kinda like to pull it towards me to get into sport mode, though.

I completely agree that pushing forward should downshift and pulling back should upshift. Hop in an open wheel car and the sequential gearbox works this way. I have to remind myself which way is what whenever I happen to put it in manual mode (which is rare, for this very reason).

My Intrepid R/T was side-to-side: Right = Up / Left = Down It was less counter-intuitive than these cars.

I had a Magnum RT prior to this car... same side-to-side setup. Oddly enough, it seemed more natural to me than the G8 does as well.

I'm used to up is up and down is down, way back to my B&M Ratchet shifted '85/'88 TAs, '89 IROC, and 86 Monte SS, so it's all natural for me. Are Imports the only cars that utilize the inverted method?

Get in touch with Crazy Paul. He was going to hook me up with the parts needed for the switch but work slowed down. It's picking back up so I think this mod will be in my future soon.
