Hi all,

I've taken the liberty to do a short how-to write up on how to bake and separate your headlight lens. Wether you're looking to install halo's, paint the inner to match the body, or are just plain crazy:wacko:, this is how you do it. On a scale of 1-10 with ten being the hardest I rate this procedure a 10 because of the potential damage you can do buy overheating the lights or by rushing the separation process. TAKE YOUR TIME! Ready Class? Lets begin.........................but first a bit of a legal disclaimer. As usual you assume all risk by following these instructions and I will not be responsible for any damage you may incur by doing this procedure. PLEASE read the entire procedure and become familiar with the steps before attempting to do it.

Step 1. Grow a set! You'll need them because it takes nerves of steel to endure the pain you will be subjecting your lights to.

Step 2. Remove the lights from the vehicle DUH (you know it's a damn shame that I would actually have to include that, but you'd be surprised how many moronic questions I get on my how-to's). Test fit them in your oven BEFORE you heat it up to ensure that they will fit in there with the door close without touching the sides, the back, or the door.

Step 3. Remove the Bulb covers, the bulbs and the turn signal bulbs.

Step 4. Remove the two screws on the outside of the housing.

Step 5. Heat you oven to 250 degrees.

Place a wet towel on a large baking sheet, then place the light (lenser side facing up) on top of the cookie sheet. Bake the whole thing for 20 minutes.

Step 6. Using oven mitts (again DUH!) remove from the oven. Using a flat blade screwdriver gently pry along the outer edge of the light all the way around. As the light cools it will become more difficult to pry. STOP! Reheat the light for 15 minutes longer and then continue.

Step 7. Starting at the inner corner, pry further until the lens begins to separate.

Continue prying, reheating, and prying going in a counter clockwise manner until the lens is completely separated.

I cannot emphasize enough PATIENCE. You will need to reheat the lights several times in order to complete the separation. The light will cool off very quickly. You will know it's getting too cool by the Resistance you get as you continue trying to separate the lens

Once you have the lens separated you will have this.

Step 8. To separate the black portion from the lens remove these three screws.

You may now proceed to screw up... uh I mean install your halo's, pant your cover, or whatever you want.

To reinstall just put the lens back together, bake for 20 minutes and clamp it shut for a few hours.

I would strongly suggest purchasing more sealant. I like Nissan's OEM sealant which is excellent.

You can find it on the Internet at mynismo.com but it's pricey at $20 bucks per roll.

:woohoo:

Good luck.

why not just a heat gun around the edge instead of baking the whole thing?

Or, do something like this http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg156/pingucof/frontdark.jpg and keep it simple. To each his own.:p

R.Penguin -- I like that, kinda like a cheap audi impression.

Sources? Did you just go to the local parts store and purchase the $20 LED strip lights and stick them between your headlight assembly (on the outside, no baking needed) and the hood opening?

Please do tell....
