Got bored and removed lower panel and adjust front bumper. While I was in there I noticed that if you opened up the lower left grill one could either run a hose to the intake (ram air) or just put a bend in the forward part of the blocking panel and curve it in front of the a/c hose which would divert cold air from the grill into the intake area.

Someone with better skills than me might be able to come up with something here. :repair:

How about some of that corrugated aluminum tubing they use on driers? It will smash and hold it's shape real well. I used it on my Escape when I removed the intake muffler...:brock:

I noticed the same thing. you would need to open up the holes in the lower grill that cover that area as they are closed off now. i thought it might get more AAT air into the CAI.

I saw that too but then in bad rain you would have an issue as it would be forced into the CAI at a higher rate instead of being drawn. Plus I want my trans cooler in that area and oil cooler too when I put a better radiator in it.

I was kinda thinkin that if it were opened up to the wheel well it would draw more air into the area that the RotaFab draws from. Rain would go downhill and leave cold air heading up.

Even if you do not plumb the grille with a hose, at least cut out the little honey combed bottoms of the panel to make them functional. The angle of the grille will direct air to the same area that the lower panel cutout is in.

Now, I have purchased most NASCAR ducting that I thought would fit in that area. The one most closely fits is the small NACA duct you see on the windows of the NASCAR cars. It is a low pressure area duct for areas that are not in the direct airflow. But, with the angle it directs the ducting directly that direction. Adding the appropriate hose would direct air to the bottom of the Roto air intake.

Roto Fab says on their website that they're working on a "ram air like" system. I wonder if this is the area that they're focusing on?

The ram air option has been one their advertising points. I have emailed them asking about it and have never heard a word. My guess is that it is BS.

Last I read, RF said that initial testing didn't show huge increases. They were supposed to do more testing at the drag strip. That was a while ago, it was posted on G8Board.

Thats at least "some" information. Even the best ram air systems from back in the day when they were popular were only effective at high speeds. The specs I remember are in the range of about 4 hp at 100 mph.

I had 1 of the 1st Rotos and talked with Kevin about my lower panel mod and was told the same thing. I guess as long as they keep making $$ why bother. I wanted them on here as a sponsor and then they popped up on 2 other sites! I guess thats the way you say thanks for promoting our products.

How do you get the grill off the car?

The grills are held on with clips. If you remove the lower panel, you can easily compress the clips and remove the grill.

After removing the lower panel I found that the clips that hold the grills in are horizontal, meaning that they pull out straight forward. Main reason I wanted to get them out was to prevent getting wax on the black. Less masking to do and they are easier to clean up.
