View Full Version : Late Night Snack: Bacon "Sammich"

It's been a while since I've done this, but here is my late night snack for tonight.

First we need bacon. Just a few strips. [;)]

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/GeorgeInNePa/Dinner%20Pics/bacon1.jpg

Then I like mayo and lettuce. I'd put tomato on it, but we're out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/GeorgeInNePa/Dinner%20Pics/bacon2.jpg

Here is the finished product. Over a half pound of bacon on a toasted roll. I chose Bass Ale for this snack because the Bass has enough flavor to accompany the bacon without overpowering the flavor of the bacon. Also, the sweetness of the Bass strikes a nice balance with the saltiness of the bacon.

(This is an ARFCOM {ar15.com} thing, don't worry about the firearm. The rules for the Dinner Pic are simple, you need food and gun. We could change it here to include a car part.)

My Kimber Custom Classic (now more or less a Custom Target with the addition of a Bomar) makes a fine carry gun or home defense gun. Interestingly enough, this Kimber is a 4 digit serial number gun and is roll-stamped "Clackamas, Or. USA" and not "Yonkers, NY USA".

Unique snack idea. The accessories are of particular interest. The stamp Clackamas might be here in the Pacific Northwest, I believe that is Oregon, near Portland.

Yes it is in Oregon. The thing is, all Kimber handguns are/were supposed to be made in N.Y.

I haven't seen many Or. Kimbers. I guess some of the early ones were made at the rifle factory before they got the NY plant operational.

Love my Kimbers (.45 Compact CDP, 9mm-38 Super customized by Nowlin (38 Super) and by John Harrison and 22 RF Marvel cnversion) and M4 carbines(5.56 mm and 22RF).

Guns, cars, beer and food. The only reason to leave the man-cave is for sex or for racing.

Nice Kimber George. The Clackamas Kimbers were the early ones and are quite sought after by Kimber guys. They are the ones Kimber made their reputation on.

George, that is super funny. I've been on a bacon kick lately because of someone at my work eating it a lot for lunch.

I'll definitely have to try the sammich! I just have been cooking bacon in the microwave, it goes pretty quick.

That sandwich bun looks really good, but I think I might add some provolone cheese and tomatoes left over from our garden.

Nice touch with the pumpkin, very fall looking!

On the Kimber, I installed a C&S custom Hammer/ Sear kit set to 4# trigger pull and an extended magwell. Then sent the wholething to nowlin to have them custom fit one of their match-grade 38 Super barrels. Then it was off to John Harrison where he blended the extended magwell i added. He also serrated the front and back straps as well as fit and tune a Velecci trigger. The barrel bushings for each barrel are hand fitted for minimum slop.

The red dot sight fits the stock Kimber adjustable rear sight dovetail and I custom designed and machined the adapter to set it as low in the slide as I could without having to alter the slide in any way. In 10 min. i can be back to the adjustable blade rear sight.

Like many others, i can get discounted pricing from Brownells. if you can't and need something, let me know and I'll fix you up.

That is a VERY nice Kimber.

For "social" work I have a Kimber Compact CDP in .45 with night sights and Crimson Trace laser grips. 4" barrel and aluminum frame. Ambi safety, I'm a leftie. It has had a "melt" job. It will hold 7+1 with Wilsom mags. Great factory trigger and it never has any problems. Very accurate for a 4" barrel.

All the stock internals in my Kimber were replaced with the good stuff from the Springfield I traded.

;)

It now has Ed Brown safeties, a McCormack trigger, a Nowlin hammer, EGW hard sear and firing pin, and a McCormack disconecter.

The gun has a 4lb trigger pull that feels lighter and has very little take-up and almost zero over-travel.

I've won a few local single stack matches with it.

Since we're doing toys:

.600 OverKill

900gr, .620" bullet on top of 168gr of H4350. 2300fps and over 10,000ftlbs of energy. 13lb rifle based on a CZ500 .416 Rigby action. The dark speck in the top of the water spray is a 20 soda bottle, we wanted to see how high we could launch it, amazingly it stayed in the picture.

George,
My Mk12 Mod 1 SPR is an 18" built using a Crane NWS barrel that was an over run from the initial Gov't build. It had been worked by White Oak Precision and has a matching, serialized bolt. It is a great shooter. At Quantico Marine Base, on their 300 yard range, it took out the "X" in the center on my first shot with 68 gr. Black Hills BTHP.

Wow, guns and cars. I love you guys. (No wise cracks Charlie!)

Sig 220 Stainless Elite FTW! I love the 1911's too. I'm torn between a HK carry or a Kimber 1911. Either way I'm going .45.

My wife has a SW .38. I don't have a picture of my gun on this computer but here is the gun I have from the Sig website.
