I was looking at purchasing a slightly used 2009 G8, but the owner said he took it into the dealership, and every horizontial body panel had some 'paint spotting'. He even went on to say that there was A PLACE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL that talked about this!! Is it so common that GM has to put it IN THE OWNERS MANUAL!???!! Why can't they apply a decent paint job? Has anyone else had this problem? Do you guys trust the GM/Pontiac dealers to correctly repaint the damaged body panels?

I have a spot on my rear drivers door with a chemical spot in it...told the dealer about it and the gladly obliged to point that out in the owner's manual....damnit.

Its in the warranty not the owners manual. Pontiac is willing to fix it within the 1st 12 months 12k miles. They are willing to stand behind it.

I had the same problem on the tops of my car. Hood, trunk and roof. They sanded and recleared it but it is starting to bleed back through. I am fighting with GM over it now.

Do you guys think it's a liability to buy a used G8 that has chemical paint spotting? The current owner is having it addressed by his local Pontiac/GM dealer, but it makes me wonder what problems I would have it I took ownership.

The paint on the G8 is the new 'eco friendly' stuff... and it has its fair share of problems. I think the key would be to make sure you get it fixed under warranty either by the owner or on your own if the warranty is transferable.

Once its fixed the best thing you can do is keep a good layer of protection on it, if you're really worried about it stick with a synthetic polymer/sealant.

How many of you guys have actually had problems with chemical paint spotting?? Have the dealerships worked with you to fix the issue to your satisfaction??

I don't know what this is. So I guess I don't have it.

I never heard of this, but when I finally detailed my car I noticed 2 spots in the paint. I am barely under 12K, maybe I should get calling?

Is this what you are talking about?

No, almost in the center of the picture is 2 circle like discolorations. Right above the left scoop almost in the cent of the hood (look to the left of the center line in the hood). There is no reflections in this portion of the picture.

I still can't see it. Apparently, this type of thing is SO COMMON that it's actually in the owners manual. If I were you, I'd get to calling the dealership!

If it happened outside of the factory then why should it be covered inside the factory warranty?

I think this is what MitsukiGT is referring to.

I think this is what MitsukiGT is referring to.

Yeah, I definitely see some discoloration there. I don't have anything like that on my car.
