View Full Version : 2 problems with my GXP
crash 02

First issue. The car has 1,200 miles on it and has now destroyed 2 serpentine belts. There is some sort of alignment issue with the pulleys. Anyone else have this issue?
Second issue. When I start the car after it sits for a couple days it clatters pretty bad for around 5 seconds. It sounds like maybe the lifters. It's NOT cold knock. Anyone else have this issue?

Sorry about your luck. I haven't had either of those issues. My only issue has been drive shaft vibration at or over 73 mph.

I'd have the oil pressure checked. Also, check the harmonic balancer to see if it's inline with the other pulley.

Sounds like you have an alignment issue with your serpentine belt. Open your hood and watch your belt spin while you have it at idled and see if you see any wobble in any of the pulleys. I would also check each pulley and see if any of them have a bent lip or anything like that(do this with the engine stopped of course). Also while the engine is stopped check the belt for tightness. If you push on it should depress more than inch otherwise it might too loose. That would indicate a bad tensioner. Of course since you are underwarranty take it in to the dealer and let them play with it.
It also sounds like your lifters are bleeding down over night for some reason or something isn't right in the valve train. Checking the oil is a good thing to do and it's free but doubt its that because the noise shouldn't go away if you were low on oil.

Do you have the stock pulleys on? go with others and have the oil press checked. If your all stock then you might want to check in with the dealer but if you have any mods you might want to go back to stock.

The dealer said the crank pulley was bad. They said that the outer part had seperated from the hub. They said nobody had one in stock around here and they are trying to get one here tomorrow. I hope they do I need the car by tomorrow night becasue I'm leaving for Dallas Friday morning to go watch my Sooners crush some Longhorn dreams this Saturday.
They also said the car didn't make the noise for them. Not that I'm suprised by that at all.

Pretty much what I thought. Harmonic balancer.

Jason if they did not get the balancer instock let me know, i have the stock one from my gxp sitting in the attic and i can let you have for them to install. Then just get me the replacement they get for you.
I put a powerbond udp on mine as soon as it got into the driveway.

Todd I tried to get them to install a powerbond for me since I could get one here in a day or so. Of course they wouldn't do that. If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I might have to take you up on that. This is the second time my car has been in the shop for this issue. The first time they just put a belt on it. It has been in the shop for a total of 19 days now.

So did they replace the crank pulley? Hs it continued to throw belts? Is your car an M6? With the GTOs, the M6 cars could drop revs muh quicker if you just clutched n so doing such would cause insant slack in the belts and sometimes cause them to throw.

Yes they replaced the crank pulley. Put about 1K miles on it with no problems so far.
