Okay so I have read a lot of threads where people are talking about the mileage they get in the GT but I have heard nothing on the V6. Post what you are getting here so we can see what it really gets. Thanx.

Does anyone here have a V6?
This is the Go Fast forum.

Okay G8 Ray, you pretty much killed this thread.

I was asking as my mom is looking to get a new car and my dad knew I was waiting for the GXP and he, mom, and I went to look at the G8 as they had never seen one. When we were their she fell in love but was scared of the V8, being that she is 65 and all. So I told her that they made a V6. The next weekend we went and drove one and she still loved it. Being 65 she is conservative and wasn't sure that the gas mileage was what it should be. So, I told her about this site and said it was a bunch of good guys that had been sharing thier mpg on the GT and that they would probably tell us what the real gas mileage is on the V6.

So I ask again but in a way to not offend our V8 friends. Can any of you with a G8 with the V6 tell me what you are getting for MPG so I can make a little old lady in NC happy? Thanx.

I'm getting 27 to 30 mpg on the hiway. No one in a V6 has even come close to that.
Either way, if you Mom is going to Kroger for groceries, this car sucks on gas mileage in town. V6 or V8.
Now, if she is conservitive, have her buy a Camry. Car has nice style, is dependable, and gets grrrr8 gas mileage.

Last tank was about 18-19. First tank was 16-17. That was going from 87 octane to 89. Not to mention I'm still just breaking it in.

im running 87 have a K&N filter, and one of those stupid ebay fuel savers that "spin the intake air(from what i can tell the "fuel saver" actually works... i put it in when getting 19MPG, and then got 20average took it out and got 19 again so i put it back in). after i got my car back from the shop i didnt feel like speeding to much.. so kinda babying it on the streets and freeway 75MPH tops usually between 65 and 70, im getting 22.8MPG out of 250miles (up hill on way to work, and traffic on way home) ,and am only cusping the half way mark on the fuel gadge.. i can probably do better but i do like to have a little harder start from lights and stop signs.. im hoping for over 400miles on this tank.. we shall see. usually have less than 350 per tank..

15/24 for the V8, and 17/25 for the V6. Not a big of a difference. I imagine that one would average 20mpg overall for the V6, which is great unless that person has to scrap of quarters and dimes and nickels to pay for gas.

I will rent a V6 for myself soon and experiment. There are guys that claim to have gotten up to 27-28MPG on the highway with the GT. I imagine the highway numbers would be even higher for the V6.

Lovin that V6, John.

I've gotten 30 mpg on road trips twice. 29 once, and 27-28 many times. My GT has 17k miles on it, and it's been parked for 5 weeks now.

What was it getting before a tune? & how fast are you driving?

Stock, I get 22 on the Interstate and 24+ on a 55 mph highway. I can't keep my foot out of it.

Looks like this thread hasn't been updated for awhile. Newbie here.
I have had the G8 for about 6 weeks. It is a previously untitled 08 model. Got it at a fantastic price. Had to cough up about 16K including small down payment at my discretion. Now, Ray, please hold your enthusiasm it is a V6 model. Took the car to Gatlinburg (TN) for a long weekend and then to Nashville to visit family and the Opry (Rascal Flatts performing) and then home. This was about a 500 mile trip.
Results according to DIC (which checking is pretty accurate)
Mid Grade Unleaded
Best Interstate driving to Gatlinburg ~ 70 MPH 25.8
Best Around town and driving on winding mountain roads (a blast in manual mode!) 18.9
Regular Unleaded
Best Interstate driving from Nashville ~ 80 MPH 23.7

Might see if a K&N and/or a CAI might improve numbers. I am happy with the performance and the insurance rates (currently insuring 4 cars!!)

Now Ray I know you could probably get better we all know that.
I feel the 18K price difference I could put up with a 2 sec slower 0-60 and the 2 MPG difference. Can buy a lot of gas with 18K. No street racing I'm all grown up now.
I do love driving the curvy roads provides enjoyment for me and doesn't endanger everyone else's lives on the freeway trying to race at 100+ MPH.
I really would like to retire and enjoy my grandchildren someday and not be waste with a cross on the side of the road.

Ahem, a picture is worth a thousand words... 09 G8 GT. Some very mild tuning so far with HPTuners. This was right after I put the LTs on, the car was running really lean while re-learning the fuel trims.

Congratulations. And how long did you drive 32 MPH? It would have taken me a long time to drive 500 miles at 32MPH. I'll try that with that old POS V6 and see what I can do. It only has 2400 miles on it so probably won't be that good.
Seriously, though, I have a question. How did you drive, ya know, what gear(s), what mode? I'd really like to try.

LOL this was only from my base to my apartment after putting on the LTs, mostly stop and go traffic. Like I said, the car was relearning the LTFTs (I resest them) and as a result was running very lean (not using as much gas). I'm back in the ~20mpg club now tho :(

I guess I missed the part where Ray said he was trying to kill himself. Please don't assume that a V8 means we drive like a maniac all the time. Just sometimes. Good find on the price of the V6....but I want the power. And I don't kill anyone or myself either. And just for the record, Ray's not crazy. I put Shell Premium in my car on my way back from Pittsburgh (4hr+ drive) and babying it (and I mean babying it) I got 27.6mpg @ 70.1 mph. This was without EVER hitting the gas pedal and letting cruise control do all the work, on a 100% stock car.

Are you trying to flame me????? :flame:  lol...........
I wish the 6 cyl had DOD, too. Seems like mid grade does best for the 6.
I can't say too much I guess about driving fast. One time I owned a 1969 Z28 and a 1967 Camaro RS/SS350. Truth be known I probably would have gotten a V8 if the price wasn't so much more, otherwise, I wouldn't even have a G8 of any kind.
I just like being a smart ass sometimes. :nah:
I'll try to do better from now on. Promise :D

Geeze, I missed all this talking about me?
The trip I got 30.1 mpg was from about 50 miles South of Cleveland to home. I didn't use cruise at all. My avg speed was 69 mph. That was over 325 miles.
I still have AFM. Having a good tune, plus some extra HP helps AFM to stay engaged. Of course learning how to drive it like that helps.
All that's over now though. Before it was my DD and work car. Not anymore.

SO FAR, the best I have seen out of the 09 GT is a 21.5 with 4 persons in the car and cruising at 76 MPH. The mixed driving (city and highway avg) is from 19.5 to 20.3. I would sincerely like to know what these guys are doing to make these numbers realistic. Are they following the posted speeds on the signe? I would challenge that one---It isimpossible to not cruise above 75 without it driving the driver nuts. the car feels like it is dragging along at a 50 MPH speed when it is actually running greater than 70 MPH. This thing is intoxicating and I am hooked!

It's all in the tune. I was getting 15.9 average (DIC) and after my tune I'm at 19.7-20.2. And I drive it pretty hard.

When I'm just driving to IA and back to WI I get 23.7, with the Lt's tune, CAI etc.

Usually avg btw 18-20 with normal driving. end up around 22 on an avg weekend driving back and forth with alil bit of fun.

Just a thought... those of you with a tune.. the computer might be showing a false mileage. I remember having and 7.3 Excursion Diesel with a chip (340 RWHP, 780 TQ (IIRC)). the computer always showed like 24 on the hwy.. while I was getting a solid 21..... 24 was a pipe dream.

Averaging 50/50% highway/city averaging 25+ Best highway was on the Causeway Bridge (24 miles long) cruise set at speed limit 65mph 30mpg and climbing. AC was on auto. No modes and running 87 octane. I do not know of any tuning available for the V6 and also I am interested in CAI but worried about hydostatic lock. Appreciate anyones input . BTW Mobile 1 in engine. (4400 miles on the clock)

After 15 months of G8's being out, I've heard no reports of a G8 hydro locking because of a CAI.

V6 here, daily driver 15 miles one way 60% hwy/40% city - 23 MPG with at least 10~15 mins a day in stop and go traffic. Haven't driven the open road just on the trip home from the dealer (~80 miles with less than 100 miles on the odometer at the time) and got 26.8 MPG.

27 Miles each way to work of which 20 are at about 60mph. The other 7 miles involve hills and/or traffic. I am consistently getting 22-23mpg no matter what octane I put in. I've attempted mild hypermiling, but just cannot seem to keep my foot light on start.

No modifications to the car at all and just under 10k on the odometer, 3k of which is mine.

ok now im upset.....

Am i the only person with a v6 thats getting horrible gas mileage?

The best take ive seen so far as been 16.5mpg mixed, ive seen a tank as low as 15.5 but nothing higher.

Is there something wrong?

My wife has been driving the G8 every week between Detroit and Grand Rapids and is averaging just under 28 mpg (including her drive in the city to work). Last week it was cool and she had the AC off on the freeway and was getting 29.8 mpg.

When I drive the car, it's below 20 mpg, but I don't get above 40 on my short commute and have a bit of a lead foot.

Update to my numbers. Just shy of 11k on the odometer now and still avg'ing 23.3 in 60/40 driving with the air on. 500 + miles avg speed 34 mph

Took a short road trip (250 miles) with 2 kids, the wife and luggage and managed 26.5 MPG. Surprised they hwy mileage isn't a tad bit better but overall I'm very happy.

I watched G8 Ray on the HRPT and he did not stop and fuel as much as I had to, so he was definitely whipping my gas mileage by the tail. I had the truck that was getting 16 MPG and he was almost doubling that.
