View Full Version : Thinking of purchasing a dealer demo

3100 miles, silver, 2009, premium, sport, for $413 a month. The lowest I could get on a new one is $450 a month, and two dealers came back at $480 a month.

I Googled it and the main concern with demos seemed to be that dealers try to pass the car off as new and price it as such, but obviously $413 a month is much cheaper than a G8 that is actually new.

Anyone have any experience with demos or advice?

I think I found my answer, but I'm gonna leave the thread here in case anyone else is curious about demos.

The one site I found had a bunch of replies. Most people have had great experience, with the occasional unhappy customer.

most dealer demo's are sales persons taking them home and stuff. can be a good deal. Did you get it?

Monthly payment means nothing without purchase price and interest rate.

^^^ Exactly... Never negotiate a payment, negotiate a price. This is a great site that details a lot of the "Dos" and "Don'ts" of negotiating the best deal for consumers:

A few years ago my dad bought a dealer demo Tahoe, and he never had a problem with it. As long as the price is right, I wouldn't worry about it.

Go for it!

Bought my 92 Mustang GT, a dealer demo, with 5k for 2/3 of the retail price! The only issue was the shift synchronizer which was replaced under factory warranty.

I say take it for a test drive and put it through it's paces :)

Are they calling it a Certified used? You usually get a little more warranty with those.
Seems like a decent deal to me.

i bought a dealer demo 09 GT. i was told it was a showroom car and was transported around to different car shows etc.

it was then sold at auction and then sold to me as 'used' but i was the first registered owner although it had an in-service date (certified by dealer) already.

no problem with the car, has no creaking/sounds like some other cars suffer from etc.

You should be able to talk them down a little on that price...seems a little high to me on a used car (considering I paid $28k for mine brand new)!

Theyre calling it a demo and selling it as new since demos are never registered. They said the warranty will start at 3100 and the date of sale, so it will run to 103,100 for the powertrain, 39,100 for bumper to bumper, etc.

Was that with 72 months and 0%? I contacted 3 dealers about new ones and none of them come down much below 33,000 when the 72/0% is offered.

Yeah, I paid around $28K as well for my new GT. $420 a month for 72 months after taxes.

Yes it was 0%. Car was fully loaded except for roof. I have a great relationship with the dealer and he always takes good care of me...but if he has that kind of room to work then any other dealer should have about the same.

Interesting. I got 450/month from the first dealer, told the next two this, and they couldn't get below 480 with 72/0%. This was with $1000 down as well.

Here is the link I recommend to anyone getting ready to buy a new car:

You'll especially want to go to Chapter 2 for the Available Cash Calculator:

The $26900 price has to include the rebates that you wouldn't get with the 0%. A demo with 3100mi and right price would be good deal imo.

I purchased my 02 Grand Prix GTP 40th Ann. Ed. as a dealer demo ( owners wife's car) and never had a problem with it. I think it had 3000 miles or so when I got it.

Yeah! Fuck it! You like the car, can handle the payment, buy it. Lifes too short. :p

I bought mine as a demo, my payments were a bit higher than that, only because i rolled in some bad debt from my g6 that i only had for a YEAR :X oh well, my car had about 3700 miles on it, and no issues besides the normal stuff. The owner of the dealership drove the car, they pulled it from him 2k miles early :P .
