I just got my G8 GT. It's actually being delivered this morning. This is my wife's car. I have a Silverado SS and am a member on that site. I am familiar with all the options for programming. I don't want to do the custom tune as I don't want to have any issues when I take it in for warranty work. I want to know if anyone is running or has compared handheld units to the powerchips? Are either one detectable when removed so I can remove it when it goes to the dealer? Here's what I was looking at.

Or if anyone has had a good exp. with another brand, let me know.

Superchips is the only HH in the game with TCM support ;)

By TCM support you mean you can download updates? I was kinda leaning towards the HH anyway.

I'm using the SuperChips 2950 and it is great.
You can download updates from their website as they
become available. You can put the tune back to stock
in about 10 minutes if you need to go to the dealer.
I have been running the 87 octane tune for about 2 months
and it definitely made a difference. I just put the 93 octane tune
in yesterday and will be heading to Pittsburgh later today.
I am hearing the mileage is even better with 93 octane
so I am going to check it out.
The TCM Shawn mentioned is transmission Torque Control.
A really big part of the units capabilities.
The 2950 also has quite a bit of diagnostic capabilities in it.
The place to buy it is
http://marylandspeed.com/superchips-cortex-tuner-gm-vehicles-2008-pontiac-g8-gt-sup-2950-p-2247.html (a vendor here).
They have it for $349.95 + free shipping.
Good Luck.

He means the Transmission Control Mudule. I wouldn't go with the Jet.

Which Superchips unit is better? The Coretex or the Flashpaq? What's the diff?

Cortex is fully featured and will allow you to select the most options. Also online updateable. As far as I know it's the only known Superchips product that will work for the G8.
And the Maryland Speed link above is the cheapest deal around. Good seller too from what I hear (well, all our vendors are really. :))

Looked at the website... Superchips doesn't make anything for the GXP/LS3?

Get a custom tune IMO. The tuner can flash it back to stock the same way the HH does...

I have a VMS FlashXpress Tune... was just curious about the HH. The "new guys" in my town from Brothers (mod mostly Fords but are taking on Vettes in my area and potentially my GXP) recommended Superchips when I talked to them about dynoing my car.

I have a custom tune on my SilveradoSS, but I don't have a tuner in my area to put it back to stock quickly if the car has to go in to the shop. That's why I want a handheld for the car. This is also my wife's car, so it's not THAT important. She's not gonna be running it at the track and worried about getting an extra 10th in the 1/4 mile.

If you are set on a hand-held tuner, the Cortex by Superchips is the only way to go IMO. The Cortex offers a 2 year powertrain warranty (one vehicle per HH) and a 30 day money back guarantee. The Flashpaq performs the same functions as the Cortex, but does not offer the 2 year powertrain warranty. Also, if you decide to trade in the G8 for another GM vehicle, most likely, the Cortex can tune it.

Once again; exactly what Shawn said.

Thanx guys. FYI I was looking at the Summit website and it says the Flashpaq is updateable and the other programmer listed is the Diablosport. The Diablosport can be used on the GXP.

Check out Maryland Speed or Pace Performance for the best price on the Cortex.
The Cortex is typically $50 more than the Flashpaq, but you get a 2 year powertrain warranty ;)

If your GXP is a manual I say go for the Diablo... If it's an auto then it's a waste of money. No trans tune which is VERY HUGE with the 6L80 trans.
Vector has a kit that allows you to run a semi custom tune and remove it when ever you want with a PC and the cables you buy from them.
If SC has a GXP tune then go that way.

SC can't and won't tune the GXP. If that's what he's driving around (I didn't actually catch that) then a VMS tune with the cables would be the way to go.

OP has a GT...... and the GXP tune is on hold at SC, not canceled ;)

I have a GT. Someone else chimed in about the GXP and figured I'd let them know there is a HH capable.
