Hi Charlie I have a have a ticking noise on my G8 GT when I first start it up only last about 5 to 10 seconds then goes away.I have about 3500 miles on the car and the only mod I have is an exhaust. Dealer says its normal seems to happen when the car has been sitting for a while.Do I have anything to worry about?

Mine does it too but only 3-4 seconds when it has been sitting, I was told it is the special lifters for the DOD bleeding out or pumping up with oil when they been sitting for awhile. My Dodge with the Hemi had a DOD system too and it did it also, they too said it was normal. PS- I am in NJ too maybe its the water....:)

All the ones I see and mine before the DOD removal make this noise. It is the reason for the NVH cover on the intake and the insulated main engine cover to reduce noise. The noise is the lifters.

Yep, that's it. Mine and my co-worker's Charger R/T both do this. Usually have to let the car sit over a weekend to reproduce it (couple of days). Switch to synthetic calmed it down somewhat.

I guess this can be related to ticking noises. Don't mean to thread jack.
Do you get more valve train noise after doing a non-DOD cam changing all those parts?

There are a TSB or two out there to address the noise. One involves changing the oil pump. If that doesn't fix it, there are updated lifters due out this year that are supposed to hold oil better.

I'm here in South Jersey no ticking noise here. Just normal lifter music. On a cold start I do get a whistle sound but it only lasts for 5 sec.

Hmm, I thought Bob the Oil Guy put this one to bed a long time ago...

QUestion, does anyone know if the updated lifters on the TSB allow the replacment via warranty work? Or let it go

I have this too. Only about 5 seconds or less. Not sure how long it had been doing it as I almost always remote start and let it warm up. First time I heard it was this weekend as I left my car garaged the entire week as I detailed it. Then I start it up while in the car and was like WTF? Since then I made sure to be in the car when I started it and it does it on every start.

Warranty should cover it, unless you have a cam, I suppose.
