I don't drive cars too often. I regualarly ride a motorcycle. Our van doesn't do too much. It mostly transports the dirt bike trailer, and during hockey season it's used to transport the boys too and from the rink. This time of year it mostly sits until hockey season starts up again. We took the dirt-bikes out yesterday, so I used the van for the first time in weeks.

So, of course the windows were filthy. I drove a block or two, then I used the washer to clean the windows. As soon as I did, I got a horrible egg/stagnant water smell coming into the car. I tried it a couple of other times on the way home. Holy crap it's bad. It's like being punched in the nose. Like a cat died in the laundry hamper of a football locker room....four months ago. A smell more dealy than a vat of liquid swine flu.

Can ordinary washer fluid go rancid? I could swear a raccoon carrying a porcupine carcass hopped out... The raccoon wore a clothes pin on his nose... His eyes were a bright pink... He was delirious.

I had the car for four years. I haven't used anything different since I've had the car; about 1-2 ounces of Simple Green in a gallon of water. The fluid has been filled plenty of times in the years I've owned it. I've never had this happen before. Simple Green generally has a pleasant, minty-pine smell to it, but daaaaang. Suddenly it's like a sack full of assholes floating around in a hot-tub. WTF? :uhm:

It has obviously become Soylent Green.

Simple green is not windshield washer fluid, IMO use the proper fluid in the proper receptacle. This is what I use...

In the winter I use this in my truck...

You may never get that smell out and may need another fluid tank.At the very least, use the blue stuff.:)

Been using Simple Green since the mid eighties (I'm not a youngster sonny :om:) in about ten different cars over the years, and it hasn't happened before. Since it never freezes here I don't have to buy the antifreeze shstuff...

Big +1 on the Rain-X, it's really good fluid, and spraying it is like applying regular Rain-X to the windshield as it also has the water-beading effect.

I would not use simple green since every painted area it touches is going to have the wax stripped off by it.

That's 75 feet... I think you meant '75... lol

I was ONE! :flame:

:)

I too use the specific stuff with no issues. The bug stuff is quite amazing actually and the ICE stuff doesn't freeze on the windshield like the blue piss.

I'd throw the hose in it, let it run out for a while and then siphon out and go from there.

Hmm. Could be, I suppose.
OTOH, it's never affected the wax/paint on my other car...
