Was watching an episode from 7/16/2009 on Speed of Pinks -All Out from Montgomery Alabama and during the intro to the show where they show various cars making passes, they showed a liquid red G8 (GT I assume as it had GT sport wheels) with a Holden VE type spoiler I believe and tinted windows. Anyone know who it was? I haven't gotten throught the whole show yet, just in the first few minutes, but thought I'd give whoever it was a shout-out.

It was during the intro of the show, had to pause it and put in slow mow to figure out what it was, at first I thought maybe someone had a newer GTO there, then put it in slow mow and saw the four door handles.

Yeah seen it today. It was filmed in the south. rednecks and coonasses are to cheap and broke to build shit right, so you see lots of shit blow up at the track.. its fun to watch if nothing else. yeah the luv was bad ass. As a past GTP owner I have a soft spot for V6 racers. never under estimate the power of the 6.
Did we ever figure out whos G8? I saw it. It wasn't 13sec was it?

Its seldom I find anything on here actually offensive, but this one did it. Yes there are some people in the south, like everywhere else, that do things the cheap way. But, more often than not, its where they choose not to play it safe. They like to push the envelope and see how far an engine can be pushed. Look at any of the current and past NMCA NMRA IHRA or NHRA champions, regardless of the class, They all kill engines pretty regularly. Faster vehicles break parts; to say it is because they are rednecks or "coonasses" and too cheap and broke to build shit right is just narrow minded, elitist crap coming from people who have probably never broken things due to the fact they either don't spend enough time at the track or don't have enough power to break things in the first place. I guess anytime a Fulton engine blows or a Shafiroff engine losses a piston its due to cheap asses to broke to build shit right?

SORRY if I offended you.
unfortunately I have to inform you I was born in New Orleans, and live in south Miss, and have my whole life, like it or not my heritage IS redneck/coonass, so Im not sure who your trying to preach to.
One of the 1/4 drag strips I go to regularly is in the middle of a hay field. I have watched everything from motor homes, to foot races for money down that track. not to mention one wreck due to a whitetail deer jumping in the path of a 9 second truck. Dude.. its redneck at its best. Im comfortable with that. sorry if your not, and yeah I get what your sayin its not limited to the south, but I bet you have never been banned from makin passes cause your last trip down the track in your 17 second pickup truck, left 12 pack bud light boxes and ice bag plastic all down the track... I have.
the track rules indicate your beer needs to be between your legs but dont be holding it with one hand while making a pass (per track official) and you have to have your seatbelt on.
The majority of the cars from my neck of the woods are shade tree built junk yard cars that haul ass and break regularly.. Dude its grass roots racing, its all over where Im from, and Im betting so in Bama to.
oh and your absolutely right.. I dont break shit at the track, because no I have never built a fast car that i pounded at the track every weekend. Because all my vehicles where my only form of transportation and I couldn't afford to break shit, unlike the droves of dumb asses I seen that would go to the track with their only car and jack it up being stupid. only exception would be the low 10 second Ninja, but it never broke no matter how hard i pounded it.

It isn't a matter of where you were from. Its the comment that "It was filmed in the south. rednecks and coonasses are to cheap and broke to build shit right" threw it out of proportion. It was condescending and implied the reason the vehicles blew up was laziness and stupidity. Thats what ticked me off. I have seen the tracks where they allowed crap like that to happen as well, thankfully they've shut down or had to revamp the entire track. My comment still stands that people who do things the wrong way are every where, not confined to the south

Annnnyways.... the reports over on LS1Tech, and similar sites state that:
He left the nitrous bottle valve open, and a solenoid was sticking open. Filled the intake manifold, possibly even filled the crankcase. The explosion was large enough to rip free and launch the sheetmetal hood 80-100 feet into the air.

Who knows, but it was a pretty powerful boom. Some guys claimed being in the stands and feeling the concussion of the blast.
