just picked up my 09 G8 GT last week and I have noticed that right after I start it it has a rough idle. It's bad enough it shakes the car some. I have noticed it at stop lights also. Any idea on what it could be? Is this normal for this car? I am out of town now, but I thought I would take it in for warranty work when I get back.

I had a hard time believing the dealers telling me that it was normal but now that the 09's are doing it too I think I'll finally accept that answer.

IT IS something like this?

slow to a stop..holding the brake...idles at about 500-600. then about every 15 seconds it sorta shakes side to side a tiny bit then calms down?

if so then yes...that is normal for v8's. you gotta rmemeber u got 8 pistons bouncin up and down. just like when u set off one blinky light then another right next to it..eventually they blink at the same time then they get outa wack again and then eventually they prime themselves back and blink at the same time..same thing with the pistons eventually there gunna bounce a certian way and it will shake the car a little...completly normal. just enjoy that v8 power =)))

this is weldon by the way<---------

A bit of rough idle is normal. There's actually some missing happening at idle, its not the cam as you often hear.

The only reason I ask is that I've owned plenty of V8's and none have ever done it this bad at idle unless I had a radical cam in it. Niether one of the WS6 T/A's did it.

If it's normal then I won't waste my time taking it to the dealership.

Don't waste your time. Mine has always had a rough idle.

The DOD is what causes this for the most part. If you know how the DOD works the lifters are pumped up via solenoid and released. Well that cant be conducive to a smooth idle, but we will know soon enough if that takes care of it as soon as that shit becomes paper weights!

I think they all have that.

FWIW I put 10-30 oil in mine today at 2500 miles and the idle is much smoother so far. Incidentally I expected this from previous experience.

My experience says that the crap DOD lifters bleed down too easy and the heavier oil keeps them pumped up which results in a smoother idle.
