I dropped off my G8 at Wong's Performance Engineering in Vancouver today and now the torturous wait begins. If all goes well with scheduling I will pick it up in a week!

Thomas is a cool guy and his shop was full of Corvettes, which is how I learned of him in the first place.

All this stuff is being done:

160° Thermostat
American Racing 1¾" LT Headers
COMP Cam 224/230, 114 LSA
DOD Delete
HPT Tune
Metco Drive Shaft Loop
Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W30
Ported Intake + TB

that's so cool. Either Wong or Justin are going to do my cam. I'm anxious to see your review of the install.

I received my baseline dyno stats today and they are what I expected bone stock. Remember I have no tune, just the Robofab CAI and VMS HRSK.

Thanks, can't wait to see the next dyno results. :) I found out too that my stock tensioner is intact but I'm going to have him install the LS2 tensioner. And my stock exhaust manifolds were not welded on - so I'm keeping them, he was just talking about the exhaust pipes, which I'm not keeping.

Dan, I thought you had the VMS tune when we met in Tacoma last year? Or did you just tune it back to stock to get a true baseline?

Good luck on the install.

Last year I did but I'm having it tuned locally to go with all the mods being installed.

Dude, you're going to love you cam & new power. What kind of total lift is on that cam?

I'm using the same specs at the Livernois stage 1 cam, so .581/.590 I believe. :) Three more days of waiting!

This modded G8 is a beast! :) It's gonna take me some time to get used to the new sound; totally raw. Unfortunately it was over 90 degrees here when it was dyno tuned. That said we got 402RWHP and 384TQ! We're going to run it on the dyno in the morning some time soon when it's cooler. It will be around the same temperature when the base line run was taken and I'm hoping the numbers increase a bit more.

Idle is at 650RPM's. Any lower and it will stall. Acceleration isn't spot on yet and will need to be adjusted. I heard the car backfire a couple of times while driving it home. Sometimes when I half floor the gas it feels like it's going to bog. Likewise, when I'm braking, the RPM's dip into the 500 range and it feels like it's going to stall, but never does. The tune will probably need to be tweaked but overall I'm very happy.

TJ Wong does excellent work. When I looked at the engine bay it was like he never took it apart; everything was back together and in the same position as before. His attention to detail is stellar and he's very patient about answering all my questions.

Glad you got your TCM issue solved quickly yesterday. That had to get you a little nervous!

Good luck on getting the tune optimized. Look forward to seeing your final numbers when you do.

Yeah I was stressed about the TCM issue plus the other issues I mentioned last night.

Kudos to Thomas Wong who spent a good half of his Saturday off (today) with me to optimize the tune and get rid of the bog in the acceleration, the backfiring as well as the idling RPM which was too low at times. Not once did my car stall but sometimes it felt like it was about to. A lot of this is due to the lopiness of the cam, even though it is a mild cam.

The bog in acceleration and mild backfiring was due to the timing being too low at the bottom end. We went for three rides. He sat in the passenger seat with his Tech II hooked up so he could monitor what was going on.

So I feel much better than I did last night when I drove the car home! I plan to go back in two weeks on a cool morning to dyno the car again. Thomas feels like there's 15-20 more hp to be had. :)
