Ok, here is what i got.....i was driving home late one night and a drund guy (on foot) ran out in front of me and stopped so i swerved to miss him...hit the ditch and dude ran off into a housing area.....long story short, it took pontiac 6 weeks to get me a bumper so since i guess i bitched enough, they are doing all of my services for 24months or 24K....NOW the problem, they wont put Synth. oil in it under the service contract cause the owners manual doesnt require it...do i suck it up and take them the oil i want or just have them change it every 3K for free? and do all the other services????

Btw, replaced parts included:
Bumper, Radiator, ac condensor, rad. brackets, Drives side control arms, entire front supension cradal, drives side tire (kept the scratched for $50so id have a full size spare tire), steering column and a fixed crease in the roof (hit the ditch pretty hard) but it drives better than in did pre-crash, guess it needed an aligned.

I added at least 2 MPG with a switch to valvoline syn. it almost pays for itself.

No doubt, take them the oil. I got a free oil change when I bought my car, but never used it because I wanted to do it myself.

1. You don't need synthetic, but I wouldn't go for dino oil anyway.
2. Do not change your oil every 3k. That's stupid even on dino oil. I wouldn't do that even if they were offering it for free. Go by the oil life monitor, or otherwise go at least 10k with a quality synthetic oil.

If you do end up supplying your own oil, get German Castrol (Castrol Syntec 0w30 European Formula) from Autozone. It has to be 0w30 (will work fine in our engines) and has to say European Formula.

The dealer may not agree to put in oil of a different grade if they won't supply sythetic. Different grades can be a warranty issue to the right people.

As long as the oil the dealer is using is the correct weight and meets gm's requirements then any brand of oil will work.

The gt did not come with factory fill synthetic hence why they wont put synthetic back into it. Only the gxp comes with synthetic. Ask them if you can pay the difference and have synthetic put in under their offer.

Also i dont go any less than 5000 miles on conventional or synthetic and have went as far as 7500 miles. As long as the oil is at the correct level it will be fine.

3000 mile oil changes are nothing more than a way for dealers and oil change places to make money off of oil changes.

Yeh, but its FREE!!! i dont pay for it so is it really worth it to pay the difference for synth. oil? i Do agree and i am a BIG fan of Synthetic but i do not pay anything for them to do it. Every service that GM recommends for 2 years or to 30,700 miles is paid for by GM.

We have an oil thread if you want to debate what type of oil. The OP was asking how to handle it. He didn't ask what oil he should use.
