Nothing you have done will effect the cam. I have the New Era non-dod cam and love it. -f your not doing the work yourself, make sure you use a shop that knows what they are doing. Also, if you are doing the work yourself, or a shop for that matter there is some other goodies you will need besides the cam...such as head bolts etc.

When going with a non DOD came you'll want to upgrade your chain tensioner to the LS3 setup. I'd do it either way personally.

Here's a guide for going the non-DOD route.

yep, we are in the process of switching computer systems, after everyone is up to speed the site will be updated. But yeah, GM is trying to get money any way they can, so the kit went up to 1399 because of so many of the small parts going up in cost...

Thank you CP i updated that old thread with the new price.

Just did a DOD cam install. Didn't pull the heads, went pretty good, but just have to know some tricks.

What r the tricks to keep the lifters from falling? How does the car feel now?

What r the tricks to keep the lifters from falling? How does the car feel now?

The non-DOD cylinders lifters I used a long scribe, sharpened the "L" end so it would grab the retaining ring on top of the lifters and pull them up. The stock cam doesn't have enough lift to lock the lifters in the retainers, they just need a little help. I pushed them all down once after I locked them up to see how well they held in place just to be sure they wouldn't fall down after they were locked.

The DOD cylinder lifters I used .040" safety wire, bent a "j" hook on one end, hooked it to the spring on the lifter, pulled it up, and rapped the wire around the valve spring. To make sure all the lifters were secured, I set my scribe on top of them all and rotated the cam and also look down inside. You can hook the lifter retainer and think you have the lifter so check by turning the cam with a pushrod on the lifter to make sure it is off the cam.

Also did the cam without removing the AC condenser, you just have to lay it all the way back against the motor. You will also have to take a few AC line retaining clamps loose and the washer fill neck loose. Then the cam will pull out over the top of the condenser.

Really good.......just wasted a 07 Shelby on the street,:poof: guess he couldn't hook it as good as me. Spinnin ain't winnin'. DoD still works like it did stock, very happy so far. Lunati cut the cam for me.
