I'll hopefully be taking the G8 to the 1/4 mile drag strip this weekend for the first time. Any pointers for launching a stock G8 GT? Launch from idle? Launch from 1K?

Try it both ways. Idle works best for my car.

Drive around the water

If you have traction problems, try rolling into the throttle instead of stabbing it.

Yeah, don't do a full burnout, but clean the tires off quickly.

Don't forget to turn your traction control off.

I lower my tire pressure to around 30 psi...... not that it's helped me much

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't seem like it really wants to break loose very much from an idle, so I was just curious how people were launching. I'll let you guys know how I fared if I end up going.

Don't forget to turn your traction control off.
Be a bit careful with TC off. On my 5th run at Bremerton Sunday I ran thru something that was on the track about 200-300 ft. from the start. The car was way outa' shape in a hurry. Had to get off the gas and wrestle it straight. Very exciting as there is no center divider. The only difference I saw in 6 runs with/without TC was stability. No difference in time or speed. Just FWIW.

When stock, mine went fastest from idle. Also, most tracks do not have provisions for driving around waterboxes. If this is the case, my best times were done with a moderate burnout, starting in m1, and shifting into 2nd quickly after the tires started to turn. Then running the shifter into Normal mode. Launch from idle on the 3rd yellow light, and get back in manual at 80 mph and try to downshift (this locks the car in 3rd). Takes a little practice. Soon, you too will be launching like Ashley Force!
