Has anyone heard of the possiblity of getting new heads that have the equivalent of BMW's vanos system along with a bumped up cam & intake? Seems like a great idea to me!!! But as far as the warranty is concerned, forgetaboutit!!! But all cares about your warranty would be blown away (just like the guy you're racing!) when you juice it!!! No, I haven't been drinking!

Had to google that, never heard of VANOS before.

To get heads with double over-head camshafts, for our cars, I can't even begin to imagine what that would cost.

That's probably almost Blower Money.

You don't need OHC or DOHC to have Variable Valve Timing (VVT).

The Vortec Truck engines.......(Vortec L76, Vortec LY6 and Vortec L92) have a cam phaser on the front of the camshaft.
This can be used to alter the valve timing on the fly.

The truck engines with VVT do not also have DOD (displ on demand) fitted.
With GM it's normal displ and valve timing (LS7,LS3,LS2,LS1) , VVT (truck vortecs as above) or DOD (L76 car)

(VVT= Just another gimmicky piece of crap to go wrong IMO)

Yep, that's what I meant .... VVT. I thought that VVT systems were pretty bullet proof, not so? The idea is good, i.e., use a higher lift cam but keep the low end torque with VVT. At least I think that's the idea. Might be worth a look, especially if you want to have high performance but good streetability.

Doesn't the 3900 in the Impala have VVT and DOD? I know the pushrod 3900 in my G6 had VVT.
