3.2 Magnitude quake hit around 6:45 this morning. The epicenter was or is 2 miles North from my house. Luckily the G8 was not harmed... ;-) No big damage at all, just a big boom as if a truck hit the house. uh the family is ok...

Had this happen when I was in Georgia. I was asleep and woke up thinking my son was jumping in his bed. lol It was a real eye opener to say the least.

I had to look out the window, because I just knew a truck hit us. Then I realized what it was. Every so often we get a big boom like that, and there is a lot of little ones that we don't feel.

The bang was the high frequency wave hitting you since you were so close.

Our dogs were more shaken, but started to calm back down.

You should see the USGS map of So Cal. There are hundreds of quakes there every week.

Here is a good one of the US. Look at your earthquake all lonely. LOL

"Primary Waves"

My dog woke me up about 15 seconds before a small Earthquake hit, they have a much higher range of hearing.

Secondary Waves are the destructive ones.

Your proximity was crazy close! I think 30 miles and about 10 miles down was the closest I've ever been.

Is the time stamp wrong on these maps or are they looking into the future?

Nevermind, I see that the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).:hang:

A few years back, one hit when I was outside working. That was a wild sensation.

I woke up to one in Columbus a while back. Though I was rolling in a waterbed for a second. Strange feeling!

Damn! Alaska has gotten hammered over the years.

I can't remember the name for that type of earthquake but if you flying over it, it looks like someone dropped a rock in a pond, only on land.

Those are low frequency waves. These can travel around the world depending on the severity of the earthquake. My old house in Rancho Cucamonga is roughly 40 miles from Big Bear.
The 91 Big Bear quake was 7.2 I heard the sound about 2 hours before it hit. I was standing next to the sliding glass door when it hit. I thought someone threw a bowling ball at the door, it was that loud. Huge bang!
Then a few seconds later, the rolling motion started. It lasted around 30 seconds which splashed about 20 percent of the water out of the pool.
Wild ride.
Before anyone one wants to get technical on me. I researched earthquakes during my school years. I'm actually quite knowledgeable on the subject.
It was said that in the '64 Alaska earthquake you could see the roads undulate up and down.

The most common quake is called a strike slip. Most Calif quakes are this type. A thrust fault quake is the one that scares me, as the earth is thrusted upward.

You do realize that we (SC) are sitting on one of the oldest and largest fault lines on the east coast, and that it is waay overdue for a quake, don't you?

I have heard that before.

1886 is when this area produced a 7.3 and wiped out the buildings in Charleston, which is approximately 20 miles away. I have always had the Earthquake option on our home policy, because you just never know.

Its funny, up on this end of the state, the earthquake coverage is virtually free.

I'm a bit of a noob to this forum (usually hang out on the "other" one) but I had a stoplight meeting with a fellow G8 owner yesterday and wanted to say hello. I live in Summerville and am looking for any local gatherings. Happy Holidays, all!

Think I have seen ya around town. I have also seen a Styker Blue & then a White that was rebadged with the Holden emblems both on Trolley, different days. Getting to head out to pick some groceries on the base, since the wife & son are off to a school ROTC drill meet.

I've seen the white Holden (re-badged) and I think I've seen you once or twice. Most of the time, I see a couple of different PBMs near the Naval Weapons Station on Remount and/or North Rhett. I've also seen a Liquid Red or two. There used to be one parked at the Advance Auto at Ladson & 78 a lot but haven't seen it there in a while. Saw the SBM once. Definitely a limited size crowd. :)

If it was in Hanahan on N Rhett that was me. Black G8 GT with black rims. It would be nice if we could get a group up around our area. PM me and lets see what we can get started.

We had one of those rolly earthquakes earlier this year, when I was still at the dealership. It was the first time I was actually looking outside and saw the 'rolly-ness'.
My dogs had predicted that one :)

I'd drive down as long as I didn't have to work. Maybe we should make a new thread....
