Does anyone make a steel rim that fits our cars? Specifically, something in the style of a police interceptor. Discount Tire says that they only have 16's and my friend said that 17's are about $250 a piece. I was going for something cheaper for winter otherwise I'll be getting TSW Vortex 18x8's for $191 a piece. I really don't want to sink over $1600 into winter rims/rubber if I don't have to. (And I don't want MSW, or Sport Editions, etc as they are not as strong as I would like.)

You might see if any of the Dodge Charger rims fit, but I don't know the bolt spacing.
You might also check a place like Summit Racing or JEGs they usually sell cheap steel (check our either Cragar or US Wheel) rims but I don't know if they come in 17 inch or not.

The charger is not the right pattern they have 5-115 and ours are 5-120, so it is pretty far off. even the corvette wheels which are 5-120.65 wont work, it must be the same size. I believe 16s wont fit when i get to work tomorrow ill check to see what i can get for you tho.

Thanks for all the help. Who would've thought it would be hard to find low cost / high strength rims for our cars?

5x120.65 will work...

Agreed, Vette rims will work on our cars from what I hear. Also GTO rims seem to be OK as well.

The GTO is the same 5x120...
The Vette and F-body use a 5x120.65 (5x4 3/4), I would not personally use some people on the GTO's had issue with the vette/F-body wheels breaking studs.

It seems some people are using BMW rims. I've been kinda looking around for a set of winter BMW wheels and tires at a good price. Figured if i saw what i wanted i'd then look into seeing if they would fit. LOL

16" is the largest steel wheel available from when I looked around, and they will not fit. 17" is the smallest you can go.
I ran Sport Edition 17" with zero problems. You got some serious pot holes or something? I can't imagine bending these rims with all the spokes (and we've got some crappy roads up north).

Well, I just went through an ordeal bending a stock 19 on a 3.5 - 4" deep cut in the road (courtesey of local highway dept) that wasn't marked at all and since it was at the top of a slight rise in pavement, one cannot see it very well until it was too late to stop (and the posted speed limit is 45, which I was doing.) I want something strong for winter. My former co worker broke (not bent) a rim on a pothole when it got really cold last winter here in Chicago. So, I either want steelies or I'll have to go with slightly more expensive aftermarkets. Looks like steelies aren't available in 17s (at least not at a price I want to pay), so TSW Vortex is the way I'll likely go.

:hmm: why don't you keep your stockers as winter wheels and then buy some nice summer wheels?

I think he has the 19" sport rim. Those 19" winter tires can get pricey...but a nice 20" summer rim is always a plus if you've got money to throw.
As for bending the rim, you toss a 17" rim on your car, I think you'd be hard pressed to bend it. I've bent expensive rims and it sucks either way. Really depends a lot on the design of the wheel (and of course the pothole). You get a 5 spoke wheel and hit a large pothole at the point in between the spokes, you're likely to do damage. So, the more spokes on the wheel, the less chance you should bend it. Get a smaller rim with lots of spokes and your fine. Chicago ain't got nothing on Upstate NY's winters :)

I do have the 19s and I still have plenty of miles left on my summer only tires. No sense replacing them with winter tires (or all season for that matter). I also want 18's for winter for the added 'cush'.

I will absolutely never put 20s on this car. 19s are perfect in my opinion, and as I've found, have the minimum amount of rubber acceptable. As for more spokes, I'm still gonna stick with 5 spokes. I like the look too much. If I'm gonna go with something I don't necessarily like the look of, it'll be steelies... And I'm definitely not going to get into a pissing contest over 'worse winters' with someone in the northeast. You win, no contest.
