    Default Radio faceplate question

Have to replace my Blaupunkt radio. Going to try a used one as a replacement. My car only has 12,000 miles so the interior is like new. My question is this: are the radio faceplates interchangeable with different units or is the faceplate somehow “matched” electronically to the receiver unit? What I’m hoping to be able to do is to use my own no-wear faceplate on the replacement receiver unit. Thanks in advance for answers.

It's matched to the VIN, I know that much.

I'll trade you mine. Attached to the car. You keep your faceplate, I'll keep mine.

Can you elaborate? My radio is acting up and would put in a used unit. Can it be programmed with a Tech2?

Actually, the faceplate is tied to the radio by a 4-digit PIN number. The radio is tied to the car by VIN. If you are swapping faceplates only, you can match it to the radio with a Tech II or newer. It can also match the VIN to the car.

and I don't know that you have to use a tech 2 device - things that mimic a tech 2 should work also.

so some of the laptop software and bt maintenance modeules or the snap on or other diagnostic tools should also work. IE you might not have to take it to a dealer to do the code swap.
