    Default Trunion Swap Complete

Swapped out my Comp Trunions for the Straub/Smith Brothers kit.

Here are the Comps after removal. Looks to be wear almost exclusively on the exhaust side.

I was shocked mine were in the shape they were. Great oil, not too many miles, and the cam is pretty mild, under 600 lift and easy single beehive springs.

Either way, something isn't right with those comp kits.

I went with the Manton bushing kit. They use tool steel so strong as hell. I have over .600 lift though and dual .660 BT springs.

Looking forward to getting the bearings out!

Photo is stock trunnion compared to the Manton. I bought all new rockers and pressed out the brand new trunnions and pressed in the Mantons. This way it's R&R and no down time.

Comps are junk. I'm done with Comp completely after this latest issue. Mine were worse than yours. I recommend anyone with them should change them unless they don't mind hardened metal bits in their engine. Everyone I have seen check them (disassemble) had that wear. I went back to stock.

IMO, that's worse! They're now pressed in (not held by a clip) and a much weaker design. The bushings seem to be the way to go.

You have your opinion. A lot of big reputable shops insist on stock unless it's an extreme cam. The stockers got a bad rap some years ago when a bad batch made it to the wild in the LS7. I did do some research before going back.

YEP, but it's not just mine mind you! I just hope yours is right! IMO, it's a bit like playing Russian Roulette. I have too much money in my engine to hope I didn't get a "bad batch".

I see where you're coming from, but most of the documented failures from the bad batch were specifically in 2007 manufactured LS7s and those were many, thus the bad rep. If I had a build like yours I would consider an alternative. But mine is a completely stock bottom end with a mild LS9 cam.

Who did you buy your Manton Kit from?
