I keep it simple. Would you keep your G8 instead of getting a 14-17 ss? Thoughts or opinions

If you miss not having some updated tech, get an SS.
If you don't care about the tech, keep the G8.
The SS, while being packed with a lot more tech and leather covered surfaces lost around 20LBS compared to G8, so in net a much better car overall.

7-1-14 Brembo Front Brake upgrade & Bohnam Front Splitter installed Curt here
I would love an ss. But my g8 will bring to like to make it worth while. I would make more parting it out. Or selling "upgrade" swaps and then sell the stock ish car Cheap because it's an R title
2008 GT-M. PBM, #885
I'd keep my G8. I've put too much work into it to sell it for an upgraded version of the same car.
I prefer the raw 1960's muscle car vibe of the G8 GT with RWD, V8, hydraulic power steering, retro Pontiac styling, and the plain low tech interior. The vastly improved brakes and handling don't seem to detract from the vibe. I haven't driven the SS but suspect it refines out some of the fun (like newer BMWs) in more ways than just having boring generic sheet metal.
