Stretch belt does not change the span between pulleys. The resonance is associated with a narrow rpm band. The belt coming off is modulated by how much time you spend in the resonant rpm range.

It comes down to risk and knowing it will happen again. Next time you get lucky again and you only lose a belt. Or karma rises, the belt is thrown breaking the pulley on the ac pump and taking out the cam position sensor with a potential of a flatbed ride.

I was always throwing my belt, all I did was put on one size shorter and it has never came off in 30,000 miles since. Cheap and effective. Goodyear Gatorback is what I used.

Well, I should have looked at signatures. My comments are with respect to stock l76. Once cam change/blower etc added the resonance may change.

IMHO, the dual bracket remains best bet against the belt coming off.

I also believe if you have a stock dampener with mongo wobble, it only helps the belt to jump.

I threw my belt about 10 times before I ordered the bracket. The day before I got it the belt threw and broke the AC pulley. Can't buy just the pulley so I got to swap the compressor for $600 too. I can rev 7k ice cold now but wish I had done the bracket sooner.

I put on a new tensioner in August. It's been holding fine since then.

A tensioner costs more than a belt, but a lot less than that add-on idler thing.
