I've run without dust covers for 4 years now - I don't really see the issue.

And yes I DD my car. rain, snow, sleet, dirt road.

I do run HID's though - but still no issues for me.

For me this falls under... Worst case scenario the Impala SS has H11 fog light bulbs and they don't have dust covers. LEDs don't work well in G8, shouldn't go without or can't modify dust covers... the Impala gets a nice set of fog lights Again for the "small" investment. Why not?

Good to know. That was what I was worried about ..dust or moisture.

If ever you get moisture inside the lamp housing, just rig a vacuum attatchment to the bulb hole and let it vacuum the housing, in under 30 minutes it gets rid of any moisture inside, exact same method why vacuuming A/C systems as moisture boils off quick in a vacuum environment, works great for wet cell phones in a baggie too, if not wet for long

I did get a bug in there once - how I don't know but it wasn't bad.

basically car sat on the ramp for 4 days while I was off - I came back and noticed a shadow in my light pattern - was a dragonfly in the housing - sitting against the high reflector.

How - smurf if I know.

anyway 2 weeks in there it crisped up - crumbled to dust - fell out or something. Once it fell down it was out of the light pattern (next big bump in the road home) and after that it was just a matter of do I mind it being there. If It bothered me alot I was prepared to reach in there with a pic and then vac out.

since then honestly my biggest issue is hazing I need to take care of.

I put in led bulbs today. Haven't driven in the dark getting so I can't comment on how they perform. But I can see why we have dust caps now. Without them, the headlight housing is pretty open back there. I think the dim bulbs are in a sealed projector housing, but the brights are left outside of any sealed housing. And I can see how a dragonfly got in there, there are large gaps around the projector housing. Why it would go in there is a mystery though. I think I'll try dust cap extensions.

These are the bulbs I put in. They work pretty well, crisp and bright.
