I used a small pair of vice grips and a big ass flat head screwdriver. Lock the vice grips on the release tabs with a little tension, and carefully pry the connector off the pump with the flat blade. It's on there very tight, but if it feels like you're about to break it you don't have the release tabs clamped enough or in the right spot.

And vacuum all the junk around the ring before it falls in the tank when you pull the pump.

    This, x10000000000.

For stuff that does drop into the tank, use a small clear vinyl hose, one end in the tank pump hole and the other into a small bucket. Use your mouth to start suction/fuel flowing out and then put that end into the bucket. The fuel will draw out and you can move the line around to pick up any bits of silt/debris that fell in. Don't drink too much gas, though...

thanks for the tips, did you have to cut the wire harness for the new pump? What style wiring crimps to you go with. Is it recommended that we solder the wires then use the heat shrink tube for a clean install?

some updated pictures from this weekend. I installed the cooler up front, mounted the coolant pump and hoses. Drilled two small holes in the fuse box to hold the relays. I need to install fuel hose from rail to back side of the firewall. Also trying to figure out what IAT sensor to use. I have the IAT wire harness from my old setup and things are a little different with this setup. The last thing to do is getting the new fuel pump in and then tune time.

Oh ya, I forgot to ask a question. What should I do with my old catch can? Right now it's connected to the back side of the drivers head and the other hose from the CAN goes nowhere. Should I just buy a breather style setup for the connection to the head now?
