The exhaust shield above the driver side muffler has completely ripped out and is just resting on top of the muffler. Is it on to just take this out?

Ok imo. Keeps excess heat out of trunk mostly. My heat shields are gone from trans back to make room for exhaust and other general convenience reasons like unwanted rattles. 50k+ mi, no problems observed. As long as you pay attention to new sounds and smells, check things regular the shouldn't be a problem at all
