single din in dash dvd player

hi all...

so i want to install a single din in dash unit where the cigarette lighter is. only problem is, once you remove the panel where the cigarette lighter is, there's a hard plastic tube leading from the hvac controls down thru the center console. i'm thinking of cutting part of it out and replacing it with a flexible material to compensate so i can place the in dash there.

thoughts?

Is that tube for the rear air condition vents? or is it for structural support? I need to see a pic of the tube. or are you talking about the tube piece in the glove box?

yes not structural. If you were OK with not using/having the rear AC you could just cut and cap that. you would want to cap it by the way, or atleast restrict it.


Don't know if that would give you all the depth you would need - but it could work. see if you can detach it where the connections are - IE take more of the dash apart sadly - but it might make your life easier over all

yeah i was able to get it out of there and got the player installed. next step is to get the stock radio to play while driving.

Video in motion? or does the stock radio just not come back on?

yeah video in motion. both the stock radio and the in dash dvd player work. i know there's a vim kit i can buy to reprogram the stock radio but i'm trying to see if i either ground the parking brake wire on the stock unit or set up a relay will that work instead.
