Default Which Cam shaft to use

Im going to do a cam swap, once my tax return comes. My question is which cam shaft will best fit my need. I want to keep the DOD because of fuel mileage. I know there are a couple out there that allow for this feature like new era. Does anyone have recommendations for which one will give the most horsepower while keeping the DOD. Would I need new push rods, valve spring, timing chain and oil pump as well? Also what stall? Im putting on long tube headers as well, not sure which ones either. probably kooks.

Contact pat G or Rick C they have dod cams for you but I would suggest the little lunati cam.

Default Which Cam shaft to use

Pat G did a DOD spec camshaft for Yeti and he gets good times and top commuter mileage, really impressed me, now I have same spec from Pat G too. Getting mine rebuilt over coming weeks.
Key components are Delphi AFM lifter set, 1.85 rockers, good beehives and CM rods.
Pat G's AFM G8 cam spec is uniquely detailed in the custom grind and lobes, but basically mid 220s INT late 220s EXH, 111 ICL. Lift @ valve is 0.544". All torque, exactly what you need with our weight, and economical cruising.
Timing chain is not hard with cover off so may as well but depends on year model as to tensioner, oil pump refurb (search Rick has detailed article on this).
Yeti has a 2600 stall and puts it to good use, I am comfortable with stock unit for my setup. We both run 3.27 gears and find AFM operating window is more effective (kicks in more) up to 70MPH than with 2.92, and shorter gears will improve the car's dynamic as well.
I run a set of Pacemaker Tri-Ys, 32" long tube headers (Australia).

my own grind, I usually get 19-21 mpg in mixed driving, depending on how well I keep my foot out of it... cruise control at 70mph on extended trips can tip me in at 25 mpg if it's not too hilly...

You really need to know the shift extensions on your stall converter before picking a cam. And then there is a host of other items that come into play. I think Rick is great and very helpful. However I am having his 223/235 cam pulled from my 416 and 3600 stall. It made tons and tons of torque. But it was mostly under my shift extension of 5200 plus. With Ed he examined everything and came up with a 229/242 on a 115 plus 3. 630 lift on intake and exhaust.

It really pays to look at the entire picture and also what you are planning to do in the next year or so.

With DoD and MPG, it kinda rules out stall and high-rpm so you need the cam that pulls off idle and less of how well it pulls to 7000. He is looking for something to make power under 6600. Your cam has worked good for me in strokers. I've been 125mph with it in a 404 in +900DA and mph is hp so it is hard to say it wont make power. If you are blowing thru the converter, putting a bigger cam in should help push the power up and the 115 LSA will do better with the lean tune up.
