just completed my setup with the help of OP… LOVE IT so far… many little quirks getting it set up to work 100% correctly, but now that it is, i haven't had any issues.

You could, but they're usually pretty bulky to hide behind the dash or glove box. I used a TP-Link router off amazon for ~$30 and it's about half the size of the apple tv. fit nicely behind the plastic panels next to the radio and then i ran an ethernet to the apple TV.

the one i have is slightly larger than the apple tv. I was just thinking why buy something extra if what i already have will work just as well.

If you have space or are willing to put it in the glove box, by all means lol, but if you want more of a clean look you're gonna need something smaller so it's easier to hide.

i bought one off ebay for like 15 bucks search hdmi to av composite rca and it should pop up a huge list of the one like he has pictured
