New HVAC control option is coming.......
I'm in the early stages of testing this out. What I can tell you now is that it will be a wifi controlled solution from your smartphone/Ipad/Tablet.
The end result will look much like this:

No, it won't require the touchpanel interface to work. IOS first but depending on the difficulty it will be ported to Android. It will use a wifi connection to the G8's GMLAN network. Theoretically, a passenger in the rear seat with an Ipod could adjust the HVAC to their liking. Also depending on the success of this there will be more control features added.
