Default SOLO Performance Tuneable Exhaust Kits for the Pontiac G8

All of us at Solo Performance are proud to announce that we have 5 beautiful sounding “no drone” exhaust kits for your Pontiac G8. Guys, we couldn’t and wouldn’t have been able to do this without your help and support. Here are the 5 kits with a brief description. They are in order from quietest to loudest.

    V2 with J-pipe: $1049.00 USD Shipped

Kit: 14” Mach muffler, T in front of the muffler to soften the sound, X behind the muffler to further soften the sound, J-pipes to “suck” the drone out of the system. T304 polished muffler and dual staggered, beveled exhaust tips. 2 ½” T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. Free flow exhaust that’s tasteful on the inside and deep and mean on the outside.

    G8 Mach-Balanced: $840.00 USD Shipped

Kit: 14” Mach muffler. Balance pipe before the muffler to soften the exhaust note and smooth out the 8cyl-4cyl and 4cyl to 8-cyl bump. J-pipes to “suck” the drone out of the system. T304 polished muffler and dual staggered, beveled exhaust tips. 2 ½” T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. Free flow exhaust that’s tasteful on the inside and deep and mean on the outside.

    G8 Mach: $795.00 USD Shipped

Kit: 14” Mach muffler. “NO” balance pipe before the muffler. J-pipes to “suck” the drone out of the system. T304 polished muffler and dual staggered, beveled exhaust tips. 2 ½” T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. Free flow exhaust that’s tasteful on the inside and deeper and meaner on the outside.

G8 Mach Shorty Balanced: $844.00 USD Shipped

Kit: 11” Mach-Shorty muffler. Balance pipe before the muffler to soften the exhaust note. J-pipes to “suck” the drone out of the system. T304 polished muffler and dual staggered, beveled exhaust tips. 2 ½” T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. Free flow exhaust that’s mid range on the inside and deep, aggressive and mean on the outside.

G8 Mach Shorty: $799.00 USD Shipped

Kit: 11” Mach-Shorty muffler. “NO” balance pipe before the muffler. J-pipes to “suck” the drone out of the system. T304 polished muffler and dual staggered, beveled exhaust tips. 2 ½” T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. Free flow exhaust that’s mid range on the inside and deep, aggressive and mean on the outside.

*All of these exhaust systems come with tunable and removable J-pipes. If you wanted a more aggressive sound you could remove and cap the J-pipes. While this would give you a “louder,” more “aggressive” exhaust note you would also experience hums or drones at certain speeds. Manufacturing 5 different kits for the G8 is no easy task. We are committed to pleasing you and we believe that options are the best way. Please read further for a more detailed description of our exhaust kits. Thanks from all of us at Solo.*

    Rectangular Tips Update

I checked with Jeff and we can make any of our kits with those rectangular tips that I posted a picture of. They fit nicely inside the fascia openings, and we will include extra band clamps for them. This would be a special order since the jig is not made for those tips, and would take 1-2 weeks for delivery. Also, add $25 to the kit price for these tips.

    3.5" Quad Round Tips Update

We can also use 3.5" quad round tips, but it will only leave 1/8" clearance in the stock GT fascia. The GXP fascia has more room and can accommodate these tips better. If you would like these tips on the stock GT fascia, then we recommend notching it so it does not burn from the proximity of the tips. This is also a special order kit, as the jig is not set up for these tips.

    V2 with J-pipes: $1049.00 USD Shipped

This Solo Exhaust kit is classed as a tasteful performance exhaust kit. It has a no drone and a wonderful smooth exhaust note. Outside the cabin it has a refined smooth high performance exhaust note that doesn’t get out of hand. Inside the cabin it is quiet with a soft performance tone. It uses Solo’s 14” Mach Muffler and J-pipes. It also incorporates a “T-Pipe” in the front section to calm the noise and smooth out and soften the exhaust note. T304 stainless steel polished muffler (inside and out) and T304 polished stainless steel staggered dual exhaust tips. T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe. This free flow exhaust kit is our quietest one as it is just slightly quieter than our G8 Mach Balanced kit.

1-10 scale... 1 being stock quiet and 10 being rockin' noisy.

Overall note outside cabin is a 3.8
Overall inside cabin exhaust note 2.8

This is a truly tasteful performance exhaust kit for your G8. It’s not “raw or exotic” but it is deep, smooth and mean. This exhaust set up could be viewed as two systems in one. It’s very tame when driving slowly and it comes to life when you accelerate.

    8cyl to 4cyl jump...almost inaudible.

4cyl to 8cyl jump...smooth octave change, not sharp at all.

Going up hills... if your eyes were closed you would not know you were going up a hill.

    Possible complaints about this kit:

    1) It’s too quiet... This is one of our quieter kits and if it’s not matched right some may complain that it’s too quiet especially on the inside of the car.

    2) 4 cyl mode... The 4 cyl mode has a low “guttural” sound. It is not a drone or even a hum, but a less than perfect tone that is best described as “guttural.” It’s definitely an acceptable tone but it is also definitely not rich and wonderful like the 8 cyl note. Exhaust theory would never have a 4 cyl car with a free flow 2 ½” single exhaust. The G8 V2 with J-pipes exhaust kit has the 4 cyl mode going through dual 2 ½” exhaust. To have the 4cyl mode sound this good going through dual 2 ½” pipes (free flow) is incredible. J-pipe positioning can alter the 4cyl sound as well as the 8cyl sound.

Probable Customers- People that like quieter performance. Customers with small children. People with sensitive hearing. Customers that have close neighbors and have to leave early in the morning or come home late at night.

    Mach: $795 USD Shipped

This Solo Exhaust kit is classed as a “moderate muscle” performance exhaust kit. It has a no drone wonderful smooth exhaust note. This in our opinion will probably be the “kit for most G8 owners.” It has more sound than the Mach-Balanced and of course the difference is that the G8 Mach has no balance pipe in the front section. It has a wonderful mid range exhaust note and as one test driver said smiling “you just want to accelerate...Wow.” Outside the cabin it has a refined smooth high performance exhaust note. Inside the cabin it is quiet with a nice performance tone. It uses Solo’s 14” Mach Muffler and J-pipes. T304 stainless steel polished muffler (inside and out) and T304 polished stainless steel staggered dual exhaust tips. T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe.

1-10 scale... 1 being stock quiet and 10 being rockin' noisy.

Overall note outside cabin is a 5.
Overall inside cabin exhaust note 3.5

The G8 Mach exhaust kit has more sound, and a meaner sound compared to the G8 Mach-Balanced. While the G8 Mach-Balanced has a tasteful exhaust note the G8 Mach exhaust kit has that ‘American Muscle” flavor. The exhaust note throughout the spectrum never even hints at raspy or ricey. Deep, full, smooth and mean would characterize the exhaust note outside the cabin. Inside the cabin it still remains refined and tasteful.

    8cyl to 4cyl jump...almost inaudible.

4cyl to 8cyl jump...smooth octave change, not sharp at all.

Going up hills... if your eyes were closed you would not know you were going up a hill.

    Possible complaints about this kit:

    1) It’s too quiet/it’s too loud... This is the perfect mid range exhaust system. You can get louder or quieter but this is the one right in the middle with a wonderful exhaust note that would still pass almost any “wife test.”

Probable Customers-
People that like moderate or mid range performance. Customers with small children. People with sensitive hearing. Customers that have close neighbors and have to leave early in the morning or come home late at night. Customers who like to hear that “edge” when driving hard but still like a reasonably quiet car.

Mach Shorty Balanced: $844 USD Shipped

This Solo Exhaust kit is classed as an “American Muscle” performance exhaust kit. It has a no drone wonderful exhaust note. This exhaust kit is for the enthusiasts that like a louder car. .” It has more sound than the G8 Mach and is definitely more aggressive both under load and while cruising. The Mach-Shorty –Balanced has a balance pipe incorporated into the front exhaust pipe to smooth out and soften the exhaust note. It has a wonderful mid range + exhaust note. Outside the cabin it has a rich smooth deep muscle car sound that’s sure to turn heads. Inside the cabin it is still fairly quiet. When you hear this exhaust kit on a drive by, it’s unbelievable that it is as quiet as it is on the inside. It uses Solo’s 11” Mach Muffler and J-pipes. T304 stainless steel polished muffler (inside and out) and T304 polished stainless steel staggered dual exhaust tips. T409 mandrel bent exhaust pipe.

1-10 scale... 1 being stock quiet and 10 being rockin' noisy.

Overall note outside cabin is a 6.
Overall inside cabin exhaust note 4

The G8 Mach-Shorty-Balanced exhaust kit has more sound, and a meaner sound compared to the G8 Mach. While the G8 Mach has a moderate or mid range exhaust note outside the cabin the G8 Mach-Shorty-Balanced exhaust kit has that true ‘American Muscle” sound. The exhaust note throughout the spectrum never even hints at raspy or ricey. Deep, full, smooth and mean would characterize the exhaust note outside the cabin. Inside the cabin it still remains tasteful.

    8cyl to 4cyl jump...smooth transition.

4cyl to 8cyl jump...sharper octave change, definitely more pronounced than either the Mach or the Mach-Balanced exhaust kit.

Going up hills... You can hear the extra “pull” when going up hills but it never gets to a drone or hum.

    Possible complaints about this kit:

    1) 4 cyl mode... The 4 cyl mode has a low “guttural” sound. It is not a drone or even a hum, but a less than perfect tone that is best described as “guttural.” We recommend that if you go with the Mach-Shorty kits you “tune” out the 4cyl mode. The 4 cyl “guttural” sound in more pronounced with the 11” long Mach Muffler. Many will say it’s acceptable as it doesn’t drone but some will not like the tone.

    2) Too quiet inside the car. Many “enthusiasts” like to hear the car inside as well as outside. The J-pipes do such a good job of eliminating the “drone frequencies” that the car remains reasonably quiet inside while being loud outside.

Probable Customers- People that like louder performance. The “enthusiasts.” Customers that like to hear that “edge” when driving hard but still like a reasonably quiet car inside.
