I have seen several posts, got lots of PMs and emails asking questions about how all this works. There are dozens of posts on this and other boards explaining it but for purposes of trying clear it up here is my attempt…
The G8 head unit has a rear aux port. The cables I make and sell allow you to take any composite RCA device and play audio / video on the screen thru this port. The Video in Motion (VIM) issue is kind of a separate thing. Once the car reached 2.5 MPH the computer tells the head unit to shut off the video signal. The only way around this is to have the head unit flashed. There are 2 options for this. Chris White Automotive & Media Services or JHP out of AU. If you get my cables, plug them in and plug any composite A/V source into them it will play both audio and video thru the factory head unit, while the car is not in motion. Once the car starts moving it shuts off the video but the audio keeps working. When you come to a stop the video will come back up.
So for example…I have an iPod with a movie on it. In the car I have the rear aux cables with factory connectors plugged into the head unit. Those cables are male RCA. Then a F/F RCA adapter plugged into that. Then an Apple composite male cable plugged into them. The USB part of that cable plugged into a 12v charger. Then my iPod connected. I am setting in my drive way watching a movie off the ipod on the G8 Screen with stereo sound. Once I put the car in gear and start moving the screen will go black but the movie keeps playing, I can still hear it. Once the car comes to a stop the screen changes from black, back to the movie. Start moving again and it goes black again. This is why you get VIM. Nothing changes accept the picture still works while the car is in motion. I hope this explanation helps some of the new people who are not familiar with VIM, Rear Aux and so on.
