Default Drone killing exhaust for those with long tube headers (photos inside)

The key to eliminating drone is not with the rear mufflers. If you want rich sound, but with little to no drone, you need to add a good high flow muffler in the transmission tunnel. The best muffler I've found is the Magnaflow 12468 5x8x20 muffler with internal x-pipe. The muffler was 0 loss on the dyno and the sound is very mature. The first photos shows the internal x-pipe. This cuts drone better than the mufflers with no x. The second shot shows how nicely the muffler fits in tunnel. You can run almost any rear muffler that you like as the front muffler kills most of the high frequency, tinny sounds, plus the nagging drone that occurs from 1500-1800 rpm.

Thank you Patrick. I was beginning to hate my car because of the drone. I will be getting this done in the next couple of weeks.

I knew about this quite a while ago. I'll be making a jig with my ARH pipes to add a resonator this Winter.

Just noticed that you have a front Xpipe with your headers. Would a second Xpipe instead of a muffler cancel the resonance?

    Patrick G,

I'm catless with kooks long tube headers, x-pipe and flowmasters and notice a quite annoying drone/tinny sound whilst accelerating in a high gear in a low rpm range, will this mitigate/eliminate this miserable sound? I've been brainstorming the best way without losing power. Thanks.

isnt this simlar to the midmuffler on the stock system? or does the stock muffler not have an xpipe inside?

cause any aftermarket muffler drones with the stock system...

Solo's first system had a muffler similar to that i think, and with the straight pipes back, it droned hard.

So is it the 2 x pipes?

cause the GXP stock system has an H pipe, and then a midmuffler type thing after words, and that drones with different mufflers too.

sorry for being so sckeptical...ive been battling with exhaust sounds for 2 years now.
