Drone killing exhaust for those with long tube headers (photos inside)

The key to eliminating drone is not with the rear mufflers. If you want rich sound, but with little to no drone, you need to add a good high flow muffler in the transmission tunnel. The best muffler I've found is the Magnaflow 12468 5x8x20 muffler with internal x-pipe. The muffler was 0 loss on the dyno and the sound is very mature. The first photos shows the internal x-pipe. This cuts drone better than the mufflers with no x. The second shot shows how nicely the muffler fits in tunnel. You can run almost any rear muffler that you like as the front muffler kills most of the high frequency, tinny sounds, plus the nagging drone that occurs from 1500-1800 rpm.

I was wondering where that install would be, but I see it is behind thhe crossover. Did you have to cut off some tubing to fit it in there?

It defentily knocks the drone down - but depedning on what rear mufflers are installed it may not eliminate it completly.

But yes after doing a couple dyno pulls - it should no loss in power.

The way it is installed it is easy to remove and install the original ARH straight pipes if wanted.

Not bad for $75.

I wonder if this will give a little more tone for us without headers and just axlebacks. I plan on doing this in the upcoming weeks seeing how I plan to run headers eventually. Where did you find it for $75? Only prices I've seen so far are $98 and up.

But for those that dont want to hack up their long tube x-pipe, I think the Pypes axleback works very well with the Kooks catted setup! The Pypes droned very little at the 1800RPM range when new but now hardly drone at all anymore. They drone much less then the Magnaflow or SLP options, the Pypes are also much quieter when cruising. Pretty good for one of the cheapest axlebacks considering you can get them for $250-260 shipped and they have better tips then most.

I have heard the EXACT opposite. pypes drone horribly, they pretty much straight pipes, you can see through them. and theyre extremely raspy with LTs. I have magnaflows and they drone horribly too, but they have much more muscle sound and less rasp.

isnt this simlar to the midmuffler on the stock system? or does the stock muffler not have an xpipe inside?

cause any aftermarket muffler drones with the stock system...

Solo's first system had a muffler similar to that i think, and with the straight pipes back, it droned hard.

It is nothing like the stock mid-muffler. This cuts a lot more sound and it flows a lot more. The internal x pipe is one of the key components. The stock GT front muffler does not have an x-pipe or any kind of cross-over.

So is it the 2 x pipes?

cause the GXP stock system has an H pipe, and then a midmuffler type thing after words, and that drones with different mufflers too.

sorry for being so sckeptical...ive been battling with exhaust sounds for 2 years now.

This Magnaflow muffler is HUGE compared to anything that comes stock on the GXP or GT. The body of the muffler is 20" long and has tons of packing.
