Talking FAST LSXr - TRACK Results!

Even with all the complaining about dyno #'s not showing the cost worth the HP, I still decided to install the one I picked up used from MGM GT( Thanks!). Keep reading for the results!

First some teaser pics taken with the iPhone4:

    Pre-paint, upper shell removed:

    Pre-install engine shot:

Painted with multiple coats of Krylon Fusion Satin Black (for plastics):

Detailed the logos (wish I had a better pic):

    During install:

    On to the results...

Some of my HPTuner logs show that previously, my AFR would overshoot on initial acceleration by about .5-.75 when mashing the throttle from a stop. I'm running MAF only, no VE. The new intake overshoots a FULL 2-3 AFR points (ie 10.3 AFR, when 13.0 commanded) from a stop. I can attribute this to the sheer volume that the new intake holds. Just takes a fraction longer to fill the manifold. I will eventually finish my MAF tuning, then move on to VE calculations.

My previous ET/MPH best was 4/20/10:
Temps: ~72* TRACK TEMP on dash, Actual air temps/DA: 55.9*, DA 388
    60': 2.021
    1/8mile: 8.440 @ 85.34
    1/4mile: 12.987 @ 106.32

Gain of only 21mph from the 1/8th to 1/4

My first pass last night I was getting some pretty good KR, so I dropped a degree of timing for the second pass, across the upper REVs.

The ONLY change from 4/20/10 and last night is the FAST LSXr.

    Last night's results (6/29/10):

    First pass:
Temps: Track temp on dash ~85*, Actual air temps/DA: 78.1, DA 1783
    60': 2.034
    1/8mile: 8.494 @ 83.38
    1/4mile: 13.059 @ 108.04

Gain of 24.66MPH from the 1/8th to 1/4
Gain of 1.72mph over previous best

    Last pass:
Temps: Track temp on dash ~77*, Actual air temps/DA: 71*, DA 1302
    60': 2.012
    1/8mile: 8.415 @ 84.35
    1/4mile: 12.931 @ 109.09 (New BESTS!)

Gain of 24.74MPH from the 1/8th to 1/4
Gain of 2.77MPH over previous best!!

I have a lot of work to get my 1/8th mile ETs down. There's so much more volume in the new intake manifold, it can definitely benefit using VE in the lower RPMs.

Hope this data goes longer to prove the benefits of the FAST LSXr on a stock cube L76. Dyno #'s are fun to look at. The proof of the pudding is in actual results.

Thanks Patrick. You find any intersting changes you had to make in the tune to account for the manifold?

I noticed that the car responds decently to a bit more timing off idle, but the AFR overshoot seems like I need to work on transient fueling. Not looking forward to that...

What are your other mods? Was your stock intake ported?
    Stock manifold prior.
    Doug Thorley's, no cats
    SOLO Mach cat-back
    RotoFab intake
    HPTuners
    Stock Wheels/Tires/Pressure
    Leaving off-idle
    Full weight

Still need to install my 160* stat. I think that will help with some of the KR in 3rd gear.

I'd LOVE to see the tune you were using in order to pull a 1.9x 60'. I cant get this thing to 60' ANY better, no matter what I do!! It just feel like a dog out of the hole (heatsoak, maybe...), but it's incredibly strong on the street.

You full weight on the 12.7/12.8 passes?

I had the sub frame weights removed (like 8-10lbs), lighter battery(20'ish lbs), no air pump and Onstar removed (maybe 5lbs), engine cover or hood liner (5-6lbs'ish), no and obviously the weight the DT's remove over the stock pieces which is a good amount. But I also have 30lbs or so of sound deadening and a sub box in the car so it evens out I think.
I've got a HSRK in the Rotofab box. It's not in the intake tract. No biggie, since I'm not pulling any timing due to it.

I'm probably about that race weight, I know the SOLO exhaust drops a bit of weight. I've got the XM and Onstar removed. No additional sound deadening (yet).

You don't have a copy of that HPT tune around, do ya? Are you leaving off idle or loading up the stock converter on those passes?

Even doing practice launches on the street I found getting on the converter felt worse than just giving it from idle. I thought something was broken. lol
