I have tried a couple of different ways but have had no luck. Can someone shed light on my stupidity? Thanks.

yeah not the most userfriendlyl way but this 'should' work..
Get your link from youtube, say for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=996y8RK5bTs
Copy the code after 'v=', in this case '996y8RK5bTs'
When posting you should see a little 'youtube' icon which will insert youtube tags for you, or you can do it by hand
so that you end up with: [ YOUTUBE ]996y8RK5bTs[ /YOUTUBE ] (minus the space in the tags obviously)
which will give you this:
-= R.I.P Charlie =-2008 Panther Black G8 GT 888 Edition #470

Yes.
Take the unique identifier in the Youtube URL and put it between the Youtube tags in the text editor.
Example.
Youtube URL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLnWlLTqu4Y
Use this part:
TLnWlLTqu4Y
Here is a better explanation.
